The New Halloween Film - OFFICIAL TRAILER UP

http://www.upcominghorrormovies.com/movies/halloween9.php

I've checked out House of 1000 Corpses and The Devil's Rejects already.  Those films were fine for what they were and Rob does know how to make a good gorefest, but I'm fearful of him using too much gore in this upcoming "revisioning" of the origins of Michael Myers.  If you remember, there was very, very little blood in the original Halloween.  Here's to hoping he does this up right.

In any event, as soon as I heard that Malcolm McDowell was going to play Dr. Loomis, I thought that was a stroke of sheer brilliance in casting.  Perfect.

Yeah, Halloween is in my top five films ever, so I'm really hoping for the best out of this "new start". . .    8)

I have faith.  Rob Zombie is supposedly a real student of the film as art.  I can't see someone like that redoing a movie unless he could do its spirit justice.  I'm a big fan of his music so I'm anxious to see what he does with the score.  The score to the orignal Halloween is brilliant and simple.

I am a big fan of the original Halloween (as anybody who's run into me at a winter auction knows).

At first I was concerned, but then realized that there is nothing Rob Zombie could do that would be worse than what happened with Halloween 3-6 (including the "director's cut" 666).

Cheers.

amen to that, 3-6 disgraced the halloween name. i think rob will do a nice job with this film, i actually like the work he does.

Is Zombie really his last name, or is that a stage name?  If it's really his last name, it's kind of an amazing coincidence that he ended up making horror movies.  :)

Quite frankly I've not thought much of Rob nor his films...but I will agree with Texas on this one...anyone smart enough to hire Malcolm to be the "new/revised" Dr. Loomis is a heck of an intelligent director when it comes to casting.

And, having said that, I just checked out the trailer.  It does look pretty good - this will probably be my first "Zombie" movie, but right now I'm planning to be in line!

I'm mostly relieved that Zombie had the good sense to not mess too hard with the score.  The score is 95% of that movie's legacy.

If was such a great director, he'd know this movie didn't need to be remade. You can mess it up, not improve it.

The trailer looked like it had a lot of stuff that wasn't in the original movie, too, unless it focused strictly on the first 10 minutes of the movie.

It looked to me as if there may be more back story, which for me (my phone rings with the theme from Halloween and I wear a Halloween 20th Anniversary jacket) is welcome, particularly with the "after-the-fact-back-stories" that were introduced in 4,5,6,666.

John Carpenter's Halloween was brilliant, but I find myself looking forward to Rob Zombie's Halloween ... although I do feel just a little bit dirty about it.

Cheers

I've seen the first one a billion times.  Can't even remember if I've seen any of the others.

I have to admit that the trailer looks pretty good. I saw House of 1000 corpses and hated it. Never took the time to watch Devils rejects..would rather save the 2 hours of my life.

I will at least watch this one on dvd next halloween.

There seems to be little reason for anyone to get their hopes up about this movie.  Rob Zombie has only made crap movies in the past, and now he's taking a bloody classic and trying to improve upon it?  I mean, it can be done.  Dawn of the Dead was fantastic.  But most likely we'll get a steaming pile of crap that can't compare to the original like Tim Burton's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

You should check out 2 then.  It's an acceptable sequel although he certainly appears very much dead at the end.

H20 wasn't that bad, tho - I did like that ending and was hoping that was it for the franchise, but in typical Hollywood fashion, they found a way around that.

The rest - feh.   I can't even differentiate between 4,5,6 - all suck ass.

And I'm sure you know about the abortion that is III.   :P

Well, there is something to be said for that.

Jaws.
Alien.
Halloween.

To me, those are ones that should never be redone - you just can't improve on 'em.  But it is being redone and all I can do is hope for the best.   :-\

Zombie main man Sid Haig has been added to the cast.  Bummer.  I was hoping he'd avoid Haig.  I like the guy but he stinks of "B-Movie."   :dunno

http://www.halloween-themovie.com/

Kinda like what he's done with the original score, tho. . .

Either way, I'm there 8/31.

A few of my friends have somewhat convinced me that the new C&tCF is a lot like the new star wars - if you're old enough to like the original you're not the intended audience for the new versions.  :dunno

On a similar note, a friend told me about this film that looks part parody/part serious about an aspiring serial murderer. I love where he talks about all the cardio he does so he can walk as fast as others run.
