What front end should I use ?
« on: March 08, 2007, 09:06:03 pm »
Well, I finnaly have my MAME cabinet set up. I haven't really looked at front ends at all and I may not even have it right about their abilities, but if I can get a few suggestions to look at I would appriciate it.

Here's what I want from my frontend

1. Ability to control everything with my X-Arcade Tankstick controler.
2. Somthing my wife will be able to easily Navigate through.
3. Somthing I can make my personal grafics for.
4. Compatible Windows Vista (not sure if that's an issue)

I decided on AtomicFE.  Looks like it should work.  ;D

I apologize.  While waiting for a response,  I did some more research and apparently I was just asking a question asked many times over.  I apologize for my laziness.   :notworthy:

Nice job figuring that out.

I've tried many front ends and there are a few that I like quite a bit. Since my wife is going to be playing this cab a lot, I wanted her input on things. Between the two of us we got it down to Atomic FE, MameWAH, and Maximus Arcade. In the end, however, we'll be buying the full version of Maximus Arcade for its simplicity and its extremely arcadey look.

Still, I won't rule out switching to Atomic FE one day.

Well initaly I had decided on AtomicFE but it was giving me tons of trouble when I was installing.  Not sure if it's because I have Windows Vist, but I couldn't get it to run properly.  Arter trying Mala and Mamewah also I finally used GameEX.  It seems to run properly on my system and their site have the best install directions (step by step) by far.  Well hopefully this will work. It's ashame I had difficulties with AtomicFe because I think it looked pretty cool.

I would consider GameEX before Maximus Arcade.  Much more customizable and will do exactly what you want.  plus, it's free!
Dedicated - Working:
Asteroids Deluxe
Firefox
Galaxian
Pacman
