GBA Gameboy Advance Rom Renaming help needed
« on: March 08, 2007, 12:56:49 pm »
I need some direction on renaming some GBA roms I have and getting the corresponding artwork.  The naming convention of the roms I have are not all consistent with each other.  Some have the number at the beginning of the name, some at the end of the name, and others have no number in the name whatsoever.

Is there an accepted naming standard for the GBA roms, and is there a utility I could use, that can look at the header of each rom (regardless of the current rom naming convention) and rename them all to the proper rom names?

Also, I noticed that some websites have the artwork (box, screenshots, and titlescreens) for the GBA roms, but they number the images differently.  Is there a specific website I should look at in order to get the correctly numbered images?

Thanks in advance.

Okay.  I guess there is not any software to help me on this.  Can someone at least tell me if there a standard list of all rom names, that I should rename my GBA roms to?

The answer to your problems is: Use No-Intro stuff ;)

You can get the DAT files to use with clrmamepro or romcenter here http://www.gbadat.altervista.org/ (official site of no-intro project)

And for artwork, just use our No-Intro Screenshot Archive (NISA) images: http://no-intro.dlgsoftware.net/main.php?lang=1

...and say this almost three times every night before you go to be:

IŽll use no-intro stuff
IŽll use no-intro stuff
IŽll use no-intro stuff

Thanks for the information.  I downloaded a dat file from the no-intro site and used it with clmamepro last night.  It showed me a list of which roms had issues and/or were missing.  It didn't however, appear to rename my existing good roms if the names didn't match.  Is this not a feature of clmamepro?  If it is a feature,  can you tell me how to get it to rename them for me?

Thanks.

Find a No-Intro set and scrap the Good Tools set. You'll be happy you did. The No-Intro boys are doing a great job and have good direction with their project.

Just my 2 cents,
John

You can get like 80% of No-Intro sets from Good sets but it need a lot of work cleaning headers with different utilies and using clrmamepro.

So, in my oppinion, the best way is to start getting new no-intro sets.

Maybe a donkey trained to search for "no-intro" could help you ;)
