Collectibles
« on: March 08, 2007, 11:18:53 am »
What do you guys have as far as collectibles go?

I have the original Cobra Commander with a "Bio" card, a signed copy of "Wind From a Burning Woman" by Greg Bear (scifi author), and out of a mid-sized comic collection I have a signed copy of Dr. Doom 2000-something, platinum edition of dark horse presents, spawn 1, and others.

Oh yeah, and some fairly crappy baseball cards too.

What have you guys stashed away?

I have some baseball cards, but nothing truly valuable. I also have a shelf of dragon and wizard music globes, statues and such. It is only 15 or so items and I consider the collection done, unlike other people who buy every single dag gum item they see with a dragon or wizard on it.
I'm just not into the collectible field. I would much rather read my comics, play with my toys, and so on and so forth. My wifes step father buys $50 in comics every month, just to put them in storage. he doesn't even read them!
I have another friend who collects Pez dispensers. IMO, the guy has issues. ;D

Oh he doesn't just have a glass case full of them, they occupy like 50% of his living space. He has several cardboard PEZ display cases full of them. Apparently, it is a collectible hobby with a somewhat large following. :dunno

There had better be vicodin or percoset in those dispensers.  Otherwise it's just weird.

I have comics (maybe 50) that ive read, my unicron transformer (unopened), gi joe ninja 4 pack (unopened), 2x 4 pack gi joe figures (unopened), and a 2x pack of 12 inch gungho and cobra bat also unopened, alpha quintession (unopened), my gen 1 optimus with trailer, megatron gen 2 tank version, skylink, bunch more tranformers including a few constructicons, my power rangers megazord from the first season, gi joe figures, exo squad figures, my mcdonalds tranformers and hotwheels toys, collections of sports cards (not a collector but i do have some from freebies), digimon cards from the first 2 seasons when i was into it, the dos version of star wars dark forces, and the standard video game stuff but they are for the most part not collector status cept for a few n64 games i bought new for the sake of their condition.

the unopened toys (except for the mcdonald toys) i will open eventually to re-enact some scene from a movie or cartoon but not now since i wont be able to build a decent playfield for awhile.  that and the ninjas came with a dvd i want to watch.  o and my gi joe vehicles are somewhere as well and everything should have a box though the action fig blisters might be mia.

all you need is a boba fett pez dispensor and your good otherwise your crazy.  now if you excuse me cobra has to join the decipticons and defeat the autobots.  (its funny i have more evil characters then good).

I had almost all of those old Star Wars toys from the 80's still unopened. At least 300 or so. I always thought my brother was weird for not opening them. Anyway they were taking up a bunch of space, so I threw them out last week for the bulk trash pickup in my town. Well, all except that Boba Fett guy, I opened him up and gave hime to my daughter.

:laugh2: your so funny.  I think i have a boba fett from one of the earlier sets but not the first line of toys.  You do know that one of original darth vaders went for several hundred on ebay?  it was unopened and had the 4.99 price tag still on it.

I didn't get into the star wars figures. I did have some ugly guy called yak face. I used him for BB gun practice since he was just some worthless side character.

Let's see, I've got some coins, some baseballs (I hope Craig Biggio gets the 70 hits he needs for 3000, then that ball might be pretty valuable), a couple of signed books, I kept some of my son's "rare" first edition pokemon cards, and we've got a few worthless beanie babies.

I recently started collecting coffee mugs from places I go on vacation. Last year we went to Ohio on vacation so I got a Cedar Point mug and a Pro Football Hall of Fame mug.
I have changed my nickname to "Cakemeister". Please do not PM the Buddabing account because I do not check it anymore.

(Nearly) complete signed cast photo of Star Trek: TNG Cast (Jonathan Frakes, Brent Spiner, Gates McFadden, Marina Sirtis, Denise Crosby, Levar Burton, and Michael Dorn). Currently trying to find a signed copy of The Sentinal or 2001: A Space Odyssey, by Sir Arthur C. Clarke

I have a few hundred mostly worthless baseball cards I collected when I was a kid.  Theres only a couple that are worth more then $5, the most expensive of which is an autographed Reggie Jackson card worth around $100.  I also have a few dozen comics, the only ones still sealed are a superman death one (sealed in a black bag) and the superman resurrected one (sealed in a white bag).  I have no idea what those are worth, but probably not much.

Oh, I also have a pretty good Garbage Pail Kids and pogs (remember those) collection from when I was a kid, but I really doubt they're worth anything.

Hockey cards; I have every complete set from 90' to 94'. Probably worthless because of their popularity at the time. I have X-men #12. I think its the first appearance of the juggernaut.

Hee, hee. Don't look them up on ebay, you will cry. (Buy it now for about $2 to $5 per year, depending on what brand they are).

I have a few thousand comic books from 1950 to 1995. I consider them to be essentially worthless, they will have to sit at least another 20 years to even hope to have any decent value.

Several comics, a few video games are all that I have, although I'm addicted to collecting stuff online.

Has anyone seen the 40-year-old Virgin?  I mean the movie, of course, not the ridiculously unsexy collectors on this forum.

Yeah, those Warhammer miniatures are pretty expensive and then you have to have a setup with the magnifying glass and strong light like he had to really do it properly.  I played once with some unpainted figures on a bare tabletop.  It just wasn't nearly as cool as it looks in the magazines, kind of reminded me of seeing those elaborate dioramas for action figures in the Sears Wish Book and many many hours of daydreaming about having all those figures and a playfield like that.  Nobody could have told me then that playing war with those action figures was the flip side of playing house with dolls, but of course now I can see the uncanny similarities in the underlying structure of role-play and simplified interaction, or something ... nevermind.

A couple of years ago when I was out looking for games at yard sales I ended up with a whole big box full of unopened Warhammer stuff for about $5.  Made a good profit on those on ebay.

My wife collected the Beanie Babies for a while. It was a sickness and it spread through the family. I got sucked in for a little while, but was smart enough to sell them off before everyone realized that it was just not worth spending $50 for a stupid tie died bear. I sold my stuff and in 1 garage sale got enough money to buy all my rock climbing gear. Sweet.

I have a small collection of 1 rel Faust comics. I was really into the art of Tim Vigil for a while (High School). I thought that Faust was some of the most outrageous art in a comic I had ever seen. It does nothing but sit in a box. I just recently sold my Simpson's comics set 1 & 2. they were complete and had many of the special cards. Worth much...no, but I love the Simpson's, so the worth was more personal. I also have the first few Simpson's comics that were released. I have several of the little Simpson's scenes. Including Noiseland Arcade.

But now, I do not much collect stuff, except vids, and pins. It just seemed to be too much of a hassle. [edit] And unfortunately, it has been so dang busy lately, they (the cabs and pin have their own collection...dust.[/edit]

check out Figure Club. It is not half bad and actually kinda funny if you can make it through the groolingly long and unnecessary opening credits at the begining. It is a take off of Fight Club about collectors of Star Wars figures.

I had a bunch of the Star Wars stuff a long time ago.... I had the big plastic Death Star that a friend and I threw a bunch of gas on and lit it up....  Burned up the X-Wing fighter too in that horrific moment....

I also have a bunch of hockey cards from the 70's.  Probably worthless... Guy Lafleur!  Marcell Dionne!  woohoo

I had a respectable sized collection of Legos (mostly from the 70's/early 80's).  I sold off all of my Star Wars legos just recently.  I just can't get rid of the 70's stuff tho...

My only neat-o thing of any value is my Milton Bradley Dark Tower game.  Sometimes they get crazy money on ebay.... go figure.... great game tho.

I remember that game.  I saw how much they were going for on eBay a while back - couldn't believe it.

My only remaining collection is a couple boxes of mostly X-Men comics (probably not worth even storing).  Another regret was the complete, original, mint Wacky Pack sticker set I collected when I was a kid.  Traded them to my best friend (at least he still has them).  Can't imagine what that would be worth today.

Hmm. . .

I've got about 20 or so issues of "Electronic Games" magazine from the 80's.  Most are in pristine shape.  I've got 'em in those plastic comic book things in a firebox.  Also have about 6 "Joystick" mags from back then and all of the "Atari Age" newsletters.

Oh, and the Sports Illustrated from the 80's with Hulk Hogan on the cover.   ::)

Chad-yeah the game seems fun but there is no way im going over the price tag when i can spend the cash on video games.  That was a lucky find and im sure you made out well on the sales.  If i want to play a board game theres doom.

I cant believe how much heroquest is going for on ebay.  Honestly people are crazy.

I have a stuffed animal called Gizmo (guess the movie he's from) and thats it.  Beanie babies made me sad i couldnt figure out why people would spend so much on them.

Heres more of what i have card board displays for mariokart ds (with 2 pamhlets for display), star wars battlefront, brothers in arms earned in blood, republic commando, mortal kombat monks, fear, a small fire emblem display, and a bucnh of the oversized display boxes.  and some posters from games but not the doom one which i really want.  all for free cept for cost of traveling to get them.

see you guys are lucky youve been around longer/had more time to appreciate awesome things.  If i had been around for a hundred years id have gotten madd stuff.  ahh well i did score a bunch of old popular mechanics mags from a tech drawing teacher.  I dont think there are any that are worth much but a few are from the cold war era.
Back in MY day we lived on the moon and we had to build a rocket ship from scratch to get to the Earth before we suffocated.
