finally built a cab with tmolding
« on: March 05, 2007, 06:21:27 pm »
i've built my 5th cab and i have finally mustered up the courage to install
t molding. i've always had a router and even the slot cutting bit, but for some reason
i always went without the t-molding. we'll this weekend i finally went ahead
and installted tmolding. My argument against it was that you end up looking at the screen and not the cabinet.

WHAT A DIFFERENCE!! Really pulled the cabinet together. The tmolding really
makes the cabinet look legit. I dont know why all my previous cabs went without.

If your on the fence about installing tmolding, you have to give it a try. I have a
ryobi router and some chinese slot cutters from harbor freight and it worked fine.
It really makes a difference.
Lesson learned is to route out the groove BEFORE paint and setting up the depth of
cut will take some time. I'll be respraying the paint from where the router scratched it.

Really enjoying the cab building.

Yeah t-molding gives an arcade project, be it large or small, that finished, polished look. It's like waxing your car. I love the way it looks on control panels.

Like you said, the key is making many test cuts to set up the depth properly. Also making sure you have the slot cutter installed correctly helps. It doesn't cut very well going backwards...

Can we get some pics please?

It's 9am. I'm calling it a nite.
