Ha, I finally figured out what my relief pitcher cabinet was!

I've been wondering what this ugly boat was every since I got it. I just started going thru the Atari listings and low and behold, came across this one.

Below is my cabinet.
Now I am definitely stripping off the black gloss paint to see if anything is left of the art.
What sucks is that I had convinced myself to MAME this one. Now I am not so sure.
What do you guys think?

Xevious is one of my all time favorites, so I recognized the cab immediately. Its a fairly popular but not very valuable game. Since you can buy one in decent shape for $350, I'm not sure I'd go through all the work to restore unless you really like it.

Well if anything, I want to save the artwork if I can to incorporate into a MAME cabinet. I like the art on that cabinet. I've got the lighted portion of the cp halfway cleaned off. It is in excellent condition underneath that awful gloss black.

Got some 3m safest stripper the other day to strip the paint off the side art. Wow that stuff kicks major butt! The paint comes right off, but it doesn't do a thing to the vinyl.  I use a cheap ice scraper to get the paint off and it works perfectly. Literally takes 1 minute to apply stripper, and a minute to remove after an hour or two. I've uncovered the top part of one side and the side art is in good shape so far.

If anyone else has an old cab with possible original vinyl underneath paint, I highly recommend using the safest stripper stuff to see what it is.

I'll get some pics up this weekend probably.

I also just won a xevious CP in nice condition w/ a wico 8-way for $23 shipped off of ebay. Now I don't have to mess with restoring the existing molested CP.

Sweet. Arcadeshop has a nice overlay if you want it to look brand new.

The CP is in pretty darn good shape IMO, definitely good enough for me. The custom Plexi overlay is also a plus in my book.
I will probably use a mag-stick plus as the controller so I can use it as a complete vertical mame cabinet

I am currently looking for a bezel. If worse comes to worse, I have a high res. scan and will make my own. I would much rather an original though.

Got the cp today and it is in great shape.

This is going to be a killer vert cab. When I built my vert, mainly for shooters, I decided on 3 buttons. Realized later that there aren't a whole lot that will used them. If you want to restore that to look just like a dedicated Xevious, you'll still be able to play the vast majority of vert stuff.

For some reason, mame does not support start button flashing for xevious. I went thru and tested a bunch of atari games with known start flashing and they worked fine. Xevious originally had lit start buttons, so what gives? Anyone has or have had an original machine want to chime in?
