Introducing Mameiac
« on: April 07, 2003, 04:19:51 pm »
I am currently working on a website, called mameiac. There's still a lot to go. The site will contain reviews for different arcade games, especially relativley unknown, but good ones. Also, there will be a forum for disscussing emulation and old games. It won't contain Downloads, to save bandwidth. I also hope to have an area about creating mame cabs.

I was just wondering if anybody is interested in submitting anything, whether it's reviews, art or just suggestions for good games to review.

Thanks, Richy

Hey, that sounds really cool.  I've thought of doing this myself, but never gotten it off the ground, as I knew I wouldn't be able to make anything of a great enough magnitude to get any regular traffic.  I'd be glad to work out some reviews for you.  What sort of rating system are you using, and do you want screenshots to go with them?
Game programmers do not play games for a living.  Would you say a mechanic drives cars for a living?

Cool,
I dont plan on having star ratings or anything. I plan on mainly reviewing good, but unheard of games, but i'll accept reviews for any game. I can work out the screenshots myself, just send me the reviews.

I will help out on writing reviews too. This sounds like a good idea. I always spend hours clicking around on games I have not heard of before. I would loke to have a resource where I can go and read about the games. Like a www.gamespot.com for the MAME world.

are you using any "portal" type web scripts?

There are "review" modules available for the phpnuke and php nuke varients (post nuke) that make submitting/posting reviews a little easier.... wasn't sure if you were doing the site in a static html way or ????

*shrug* just an idea...

I don't really know much about creating websites, so i'll probebly just have a plain HTML site. When i get an email address ready, to send reviews, i'll post it. I'll be away for 2 weeks, so it'll be awhile.

Hmm.. I always like to find obscure but awesome games, here's a few:
Cybattler *I did a review over at classicgaming.com of it*
Great 1000 Mile Race
Dangun Fever
Captain Tomada *Neo-Geo game*
Dodonpachi
Guwange
Shock Troopers 2 *Neo-Geo game*

When I find a few more games that i think are hella cool, I'll post em.

Sorry for the double post. (Noone posted after my last post)
Anyway, The site has changed. It's now a retro games discussion Forum. It covers all Formats. You can still post underrated games in either the Emulation or arcade areas.
The address is still
http://pub16.ezboard.com/bmameiac
Join up soon. Thanks

Personally, i think that idea is obsolete!

There's tons of sites doing it!

Ex: www.arcadeperfect.com, arcade@home.com, mame.net...

Belive me, i think these 3 sites have a considerable amount of info even on super rare games!

But! The idea of making a site specially cab related wouldn't be a bad idea indeed!!

Like something like this

Sections:

.Cab of the day.

.Cabinet projects.

.How to?.

.Links. --> Original and fine looking cabs!

.Wiring a cab.

Etc.

Belive me, this type of site would be a blast! :)

Just think how many people would visit it! :)

There's lots of people around the world with technical questions!

This site would prevent the 'redundant' forums!

What do you think!?

Didn't you pretty much just describe BYOC's site?
