Help with testing new EmuMovies Mame HiQ files needed
« on: February 22, 2007, 10:49:41 pm »
Ok I have been making these new higher quality Emumovies sets for the last few months but never got around to trying them on my cab.  Today I dropped over the new MAME ones and they barely work in Mala.  They play fine on all 4 computers that I have in different players, but for some reason they run really slow in Mala and freeze up the front end.  I was hoping that I could get a few people to download the samples and try them out in different front ends and other installs of Mala so I can see if it is my config, Mala, or all front ends.

I have already released 4 sets like this and it is going to suck if they will not work in an arcade cab.

The main difference between these files and my previous ones is that they are 2x the resolution.  I can't figure out why that would cause a problem but it is in my case.  And my cab is running a P4 3.0Ghz with 1GB of ram so the larger file size should not cause a problem.  In fact they should run on a much less powerful system without a hitch.

Anyway here are a couple of links, feedback would be greatly appreciated.

BTW they are encoded in Xvid.

OK

I could not get any vids to work on this main PC (but that has always been the case) using mala. It is a P4 2.8Ghz 1 Gig with a Asus video card (I don't think that is the issue as I've tried a few cards in it)  :banghead:

But    ;D

On my cab with a 1.8Ghz AMD and 512K Gforce440 .... your old vids AND your new vids run sweeeeeeeet n smooth with MaLa.

It also ran fine on the kids PC with similar specs to my cab

I had one of the test vids on full screen for mala start too!

So it aint a speed issue

I will try a fresh mala install then, maybe there is just some junk in there.

I dunno...  :dunno

I should add that the vids play fine in mediaplayer on this main PC that does not play vids in mala...  A puzzle

If divx is at all installed on that system it WILL break video playback in Mala.

I just downloaded a codec sniper and it could not find any divx crap..

I think I have a prob on this main PC as I have a kickass HD realtime video rendering card installed and it is conflicting somehow

Just to add...I downloaded both test files and both did the same to me Circo...VERY choppy playback then a lockup of Mala...Happened with videos set as Mala start intro and as game preview video.

Pentium 4 - 3.0 gHz
512 Mb RAM
NVidia GeForce 5200 video card

Plan to upgrade RAM, but video files run great in WMP.  If you can track down the problem, I'd love to know.

BTW...thanks for all the hard work you put into this project for everyone at no cost to us.  Really is a great addition to any cab.

Swindus sent me over a beta last night that is supposed to fix the problem, so I will report back on that in a few hours.

Has anyone tried this with MameWah or AtomicFE??  I would like to know if this is a Mala specific issue, or an issue across all front end

The files are encoded the exact same way as the other vids just the resolution is higher,  so I don't think that it would be a decoder issue.  I am pretty sure that it is the FE itself, and for all of it's strengths, Mala has issues with videos already.  I am hopeful that swindus has finally licked the prob and he reported good results with these vids on the new version.

me too!
Then we can work on the custom EmuMovies screen saver.

That is if the mods Swindus has made to the built in screen saver (to be released in the next version) aren't good enough for you..  :dunno

Well I am happy to say that with RC9 Mala now plays the HiQ vids flawlessly, I sent swindus back the feedback so hopefully he will release it soon.  The screensaver mode still needs some tweaking I think as I could not get it to work, but the progress is looking good.

I may still need your help with the plugin, as I would be neat to send the file names of the vids in screensaver mode to the lcd's.  I will see what swindus has to say about my feedback.  This sure is exciting though, loving mala more and more every day ;D

OK if mala passes to the plug-ins about what vid is being displayed (Swindus would need to add that ability) than I can pass that to lcd and/or beta-brite or use that name to match up with a data file with info about that game..
Whatever you want really

Those ARE nice quality vids..... You can't beat progress!

EDIT: Does this mean you are back to Xvid from DivX?

Actually I started with Divx, the incompatability with mala moved me to xvid.  Actually I am much happier with the codec and tools that I am using now than before.  It takes a little longer but the quality is much, much better.  The watermarks are for use in the screensaver, so that you can mix them all up and still know what system each game is from.
