How do I know what power supply I need for the Galaxy board? I found someone on ebay that says they have some. He said "what model do you need? they use a swiching powersupply". Is there something I can look for on the board I bought? Remember, I am trying to convert my Super 6 Plus 2 to a Galaxy. I have the Galaxy board, new darthead and I think this is the last thing I need. This is what is listed on the HAPP site.

I asked if he had the one metioned above and he said

"no, i have a powersupply that works but has no dimmer, it is a regular swhitching, 5, 12, volt"

Will that work, the dimmer is just for the lights right?

All my English Mark Dart stuff is stored off-site at a friend's garage about two miles away from my apartment. I will have to wait to get to that information.

That picture is of a conventional video game switching power supply.

I still haven't gotten over to my friend's house with my manuals yet.

In the meantime, have you checked the manuals in the archives at www.arachnidinc.com yet?

I bought it and he is going to send me a wire harness he made also. It should just be plug and play but I will try to verify the pin outs. Hope it works

Ok, I've found my English Mark Dart stuff.

The "Galaxy" dart game used two different power supply assemblies during the production run. At first they used a linear power supply module that looked very much like the old Super 6 (6000 series) power supply. Then they changed to a conventional switching regulator supply just like in a video game. The gameboard uses just +5 volts and +12 volts.

The linear power supply had a dimmer circuit board mounted under it's chassis. The switching supply had a seperate dimmer circuit board mounted near the switching supply. The dimmer is not necessary for game operation. It merely illuminates the target head.

I'm about to email several Galaxy documents to arcarc.xmission.com for posting.

EDIT: I have sent the documents and he should be posting them in the next couple of days.

So the one I posted above should work then correct? If it works I should have everything I need I think. Main board, new dart head and power supply. Anything else??

Yes it'll work as the gameboard only needs +5 and +12 volts to operate.

Your target head also needs the Smart Target PC board and missed dart detector board.

I think the target head has both of these, I will double check. Thats all I should need then right? I don't need that card reader do I?

Card reader was only used for leagues. You don't need it.

There's an interboard pinout/wiring diagram I sent to Bombjack/ARCARC which should be posted in the next couple of days there.

The early Galaxies were built with linear (analog) power supplies and later in the production run they switched to a switching regulator supply just like a video game.

Arachnid has a Galaxy manual on their site in the archive, but I don't know which one they posted as TWO manuals were issued. The first manual is for a Galaxy game with the linear power supply while the second manual is for a Galaxy equipped with a switching regulator power supply.

I know the dart head I got has the missed dart detector and it looks like it has the smart target PC board.

Interboard = between boards. Hence wiring between board to board.

oh ok, but would would I need that for?? I only looked quickly but everything seems to just plug in. The darthead plugs into the main board and the missed dart detector and smart target PC board are attached to the dart head.

That diagram shows how all the boards connect to each other and has the pinouts of each board (very helpful for the power supply hookup).

As of last night the stuff I sent to bombjack still had not been posted.

If I want to use a new monitor for this what would you suggest? Would like it to be 15" or 17", color but does not have to be original? any suggestions?

Oh, one more question, can the galaxy board be upgraded to a Galaxy 2? I think I saw somewhere it can be but not sure. Like a chip or something.

No, the Galaxy only generates black & white video. It wasn't until the "Black Widow" model that Arachnid went to hardware that generated color video.

The Galaxy and Galaxy 2 are totally different hardware platforms incompatible with each other.

Some Galaxy games were shipped with either a Magnavox "Computer Monitor 80" or a Goldstar 12" amber monitor (model numbers escape me, I've already put all the English Mark Dart stuff back in storage).

NO! Totally incompatible. That's a regular arcade video game monitor.

The Galaxy needs an ordinary tv with a video input jack.
