Atomiswave arcade with Tri Sync Wei Ya monitor chassis Problems?
« on: February 19, 2007, 08:47:36 am »
Ok I just got a Atomiswave Japanese candy cabinet it came with a 29" Tri Sync Wei Ya monitor chassis. It has a vga cable as stock connector. Ok no problem, my problem is the scanlines in 15khz mode really bother my eyes. Are there other tri-sync monitors out there that offer smoother 15khz modes? (I was looking at Billabs monitor maybe?) Also when I try to run dreamcast through a vga box on the monitor the top part is overscanned and off screen. I found the focus/darkness pots but is there other pots or things on the monitor that I can shrink the vertical image at all? Im a newb when it comes to arcade monitors so any help is a appreciated. Thanks all......

you will find the vertical size pot either on the main monitor chassis or a remote board(depending on which model you have)

Billabs is a Wei-ya reseller. All Billabs monitors are rebranded Wei-ya monitors & chassis.

ok i had no idea there was another remote board hidden in by the coin drop slot. makes sense now i can see all the pots for all the properties. thanks. So Ken I know you deal with a lot of tri-sync monitors.... any recommendation on one that gives a decent 15 khz pic with not so notiecable scanlines?   thanks

As a rule - the sharper the monitor, the more noticable the scanlines are going to be.

You COULD adjust the focus and bring it out slightly to make the image fuzzier which will reduce the harsh effect of the scanlines...  OR, you could try some scanline effects and see how they look (I like 50% scanlines myself).  I use that with the multisyncs and am generally pleased though the scanlines may look a bit off to someone analyzing an image.

I don't know if the AVGA will allow you to double up on the resolutions / prescale the image while preserving the proper refresh and such.  Advancemame was my fav and didn't even require an AVGA but that build as been discontinued since .106 so the AVGA may be the way to go now.

No I don't deal with alot of tri-sync monitors. I've only dealt with four of them and that's been over the last 6 months. 99.9% of the monitors I work on/with are CGA standard resolution used in arcade game applications.
