quicktime movies
« on: February 18, 2007, 02:33:32 am »

whats the best way to watch a .mov movie without quicktime? i have NEVER been able to use quicktime for anything. i must have downloaded the stupid thing half a dozen times over the years and theres always something wrong. if i cant watch mov on a different player, is it possible to convert the .mov to something normal that works, like mpeg or avi?

this is the link if anyone wants to see if maybe the file just doesnt work (its about 1 meg):

ive tried downloading and saving, and also just opening from that link where it looks like its trying to stream or something...

I used to use the Quick- and Real- alternatives, but I'd still end up with things like AC3 and other weird crap bugging me. Now I use a codec bundle to try and hit as many as once.

Except that this doesn't play mov or rm files, so it's not really my idea of a "complete bundle".  :dunno

Most bundles I tried were a bit too bulky with a lot of programs in it that I didn't need.
CCCP is very clean and when you download real- and quicktime alternative you can almost play everything.

It's not that hard to download 2 extra programs :p

That's weird, it works for me.  :dunno

It's an old B&W 'moving picture' of this crazy "elephant trunk & nose" plane wobbling along.

ah, i thought it looked too freaky to be just a media player! you know, its times like these that i fantasise that a routine medical check up reveals a piece of lead mysteriously lodged in my brain. once removed, i become the genius i know i should be! alas, unlikely to be true. i guess i have to make do with what i have...
