Need router advice

How do you make straight cuts with a route? I routed a joystick recess on a scrap board and... let's just say it somewhat resembles a geometric shape.

Use an edge guide or clamp a straightedge in place and run the router along it, simlar to the way you'd use a sawboard with a circular saw...
