Older MAME sets?
« on: February 10, 2007, 07:39:48 am »
Not sure if this is violating board rules here, but do some people keep older versions of romsets around for those people who are not going to buy the biggest & baddest computer out there?  A friend of mine is selling me (for about $5) a PIII 1GHz computer and I know it probably won't run MAME .112, will it? I'm betting I need to go back quite a few versions and get those romsets, but I don't even know how to go about that.

Can I ask for some direction or help, or not?

Yes. You want to use this program called clrmamepro, which lets you rollback your sets to previous versions of mame. So first, you wanna download a complete romset (doesn't matter which version, as long as it's a version higher than the version of mame you're going to use). I can't tell you where specifically to get one, (so please don't --- saint).

Then use the tutorial here. You might wanna back up your roms, because first time users can have trouble and accidentally mess them up or delete them. (Like I did  :D)

How does this proggy differ from Romcenter or does it do the same thing?

You are correct, it does the same thing. Clrmamepro may have more features or something, but I think Romcenter is easier to use. I probably should have suggested that one instead.  :D

(so please don't --- saint).

Sorry about that. I've seen other times in the forum where people have posted that you can get roms from these sources, and none have been censored. I thought that a generic source would be okay. I guess not. I'm sorry. Won't happen again.

They were probably missed.  I thought everyone assumed in these cases that the person asking had a set.  If not, obviously they're hosed....unless they're your buddy, and then what ya all talk about amongst yourselves is your business.  Pretty simple.
