SNES Snaps - Where?
« on: February 09, 2007, 04:32:06 pm »
Most sites that showed up on my forum search here were 404. Any suggestions where to find some SNES snaps?

It seems like the snaps from that site are pretty random...

Although they're in the Goodtools format, the collection is nowhere near complete...  alot of times a game will have a screenshot for the (J) [!] version and not the (U) version, or the other way around..  and it doesnt even seem to be consistent in the idea of using the "best" version, as not all of them are [!]... it just seems to be random on which versions there will be screenshots for, and you have to have the EXACT same list of games/versions to have a seamless scroll of games with screenshots...

EDIT: Well after looking I can't for the life of me find another source. So all things considered, it's the best available.  Although you'll have to go through and take care of the missing snaps, it's definitely better than working from scratch

Yeah, I just started another post with that problem...dealing with matching up the filenames.

So is that what [!] stands for..."best"?

It stands for verified good dump.

Here's the complete list if you're interested.

Code: [Select]
[!] Verified good dump
[a] Alternate version of the game, usually a different revision of the game code.
[b] Bad Dump of a ROM that probably doesn't work properly
[C] Complete
[cr] Cracked
[f] Fixed to run better on emulators or bug fixed
[h] Hack of a ROM that has possibly an intro added or graphics changed
[o] Overdump of a ROM which has too much space allocated for it making it too big
[p] Pirate rom released without consent or stolen from the original dumping group
[PD] ROM is in the public domain
[t] Trained ROM that has a small bit of code that lets you cheat in the game
[T]\[tr] Translation of a ROM from one language to another
[J] Japanese release
[u] US release
[E] European release
[i] Italian release
[s] Spanish release
[F] French release
[G] German release
(M#) Multilanguage (# of languages)
(###) Checksum
(**k) ROM size
ZZZ_ Unclassified
(Unl) or (U) Unlicensed
(-) Unknown year

I guess I was lucky then with the snaps... it all matches my rom names :)
