Trouble with trackball settings
« on: February 08, 2007, 10:52:59 am »
I am having trouble with my trackball.  It is an imperial/betson unit (has a usb Happ board connected to it).  When I built my control panel, I installed it with the wiring coming out of the unit on the top right corner.  Once I hooked it up and started using it, it became clear that I should have installed it with the wiring coming from the lower right corner.  It physically needs to be turned 90 degrees.  However, I have everything built and installed, and I am wondering if there are some settings somewhere to change the x/y axis of the controller.  I want to use the trackball as a mouse in windows as well.  By the way, this site is INCREDIBLE!!  It got me motivated to build my own arcade machine!!  Not as nice as some, but respectible.  Anyways, thanks for everything, guys (and gals!)  Hopefully someone has an answer for me.

Welcome to my hell.   At least with my HAPP,  it was just easier to re-orient my trackball.   And with the HAPP I had absolutely no excuse...since the damn thing had an arrow with the words FRONT embossed right on the friggin' thing!

If it was just needed in mame, you could remap (mameFAQ h05).

Since you want to use it in windows too, however, you might want to try using Logitech mouse driver, and change the orientation.  Or logitech used to have an orientation tab, but I've read it doesn't anymore.

Another way is to open up the TB case and switch the sensor boards.  IIRC, with your rotation the Y axis will be backwards if you swap.  (If I'm wrong, or you rotate 180, the X axis will be backwards.)

Yup, the x axis was backwards, however, I switched the green and yellow wires, and viola, it works perfectly.  Thanks alot!!
