Atari Pool Shark.
« on: February 08, 2007, 01:17:00 am »

Very rare to see a USA machine in this neck of the woods.

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Gaming/Coinop-pinball/auction-86850714.htm

$300 NZD isn't much.
Prob $200 USD.

Looks complete as well.

Mmmmmmmm.

I think that's an illusion. The original flyer says it uses joysticks:

Some of the really old games used half spheres that completely covered the joysticks.  I was kind of thinking they were bigger than that looks though.

KLOV says analog joystick and shows a cabinet with very joystick looking ...well...joysticks....those COULD be trackballs I imagine!

If I compare the pictures of the add with that of the original flyer, it looks like the joysticks shaf and balltops are missing.

The shiny "balls" you see seem to have a black ball-top joystick on top on the flyer. A weird joystick construction indeed. I zoomed in a bit on that flyer and those shiny metal things actualy look a bit like a metal ashtray, with indeed a joystick shaft and black ball-top in the middle........they sure match the Atari startbuttons nicely !

Think I solved this mystery.  ;)

For some reason, Atari apparently used these weird, pot-based joys in some games, Flyball and Pool Shark being two.

Look at the auctions at the bottom.  The stick came with a silver, shiny bezel.  Thin stick + shiny bezel + poor pic = "silver tracball."

Maybe this is the kind of joystick they used

Yup.  That's the stick I referred to in my post.  Gotta be it.

Check it out, here is the chrome joystick bezel that we thought looked like a trackball:

I didn't know KLOV listed Ebay auctions.  New feature.
(and also, once the listings are done, they will no longer show up on that KLOV page, but a direct link will)
