About 10 of these stories pop up a year. If there were anything to any of them something would have come of it by now.

Be careful guys, Xiaou has a history of coming totally unglued when you tell him he is wrong about anything, or even disagree on a matter of opinion, for that matter.  I'm just going to smile, and slowly back out of the room before he comes back and sees what y'all have written.

This guy not only has a working machine that Runs a ford F150,
but also,  over 40 scientist have signed documents to him that his
theories are sound, and that his machine does in fact do what he
says it does.

The people who mock this, especailly without Looking at the actual facts, are the types of people who laughed at the guy who said the earth was
round and not flat.

Science has been developed by man, and guess what?  Many times Man
is wrong.. or missing all the details.

Watch the video for a explanation of the theories and tell me why they
arnt sound..  And then tell me how the leading scientist of nasa who was asked to verify his works by the patent office gave him vindication.

Its easy to spout jokes.  Less easy to stnad up and disclaim the actual evidences.

To this date.. nobody has, AFAIK.

Btw - If Tesla said God inspired or transended the information to him about better AC power generation...  would you then power down your pc ?   Get real.  Just cause the guy mentioned a higher power doesnt invalidate anything.

And furthermore, I dont get unglued if Im disagreed with.  However, if you give me a bad attitude, you will get it back.

At 14:42 in the video you see him manually starting the fly-wheel rotating, which (depending upon its weight) is a massive extra input into the system. From that you get friction, which translates into heat. It's old news that even dead non-rechargeable batteries can often be given a bit of extra juice by mildly heating them. Add to that the fact that after it's spinning all that you need is for the input batteries they never want to talk about to provide the small extra juice you need to keep it spinning.

Apparently the National Bureau of Standards agreed: in no case did the device's efficiency approach 100 percent.

I'll even go so far as to say I'd be happy to let them start the system up with external power, but so long as he refuses to disconnect all external power sources once the machine is supposed to be "self-sufficient", then we've all got more then enough reason to smell a rat.

Why does he ever need to start it up? Why not just leave it running all the time? How come his house is still connected to mains? After nineteen years and hundreds of thousands of dollars of investment he hasn't built a single engine big enough to run his TV and fridge yet? Here's a good one, since he's such a humanitarian: why not run a line out to the edge of his property so that all the neighbourhood kids can recharge their batteries for free? Seriously, you throw a couple of power points on the edge of your property that anyone can use for free and you can be sure that eventually the whole town will be ponying up the cash to build their own engines to power their own houses 'forever'. Why doesn't he run his car that way the whole time? He can't claim that he has never been able to afford it because he has received funding in the past, and nothing has ever come of it.

Why? Because regardless of whether or not he actually does believe his own BS, the universe doesn't.

The guy has a clever invention, true. It is NOT all that he talks it up to be though.
This is just another "midget hidden in the walls" perpetual motion scam. I took a look through several of the "sources" on his page. The mathematics were sketchy at best. If the guy was a true scientist with reputable sources, then phrases like "I don't have the exact numbers, but Mr. Newman says..." would not be used in a scholarly paper written by a fellow Dr. of Engineering. Everything about the site is amateurish and non-professional. Thus, I cannot and will not take this guy seriously.
Side note: the fundamentals and theory behind his engine does seem interesting, but it is just another one of those quirks of science that doesn't mean anything to anyone other than doctorate thesis writers looking for an obscure topic.

Seriously, can you even read your own writing?!?

ANYTHING THAT STOPS IS NOT A MAGIC ENGINE!

When they can build one of these that runs for days, weeks and years on end without anyone ever touching it, then the world will shower this guy with money and we will all eat humble pie at your feet. Until then, he's a quack.

A spinner in the best conditions can spin for like 1 minute.   A motor has much more friction and resistence.  5 minutes is an amazing feat.

And if you actually Looked at hs results chart where he compares each individual test, you can see where the test stops the motor in a few seconds when disconnecting the capacitors.

THe one with the caps connected gets 5 min however.

Id say thats a pretty impressive feat.

these stories come up all the time.  the guy that developed an engine that runs on tap water, a semi truck that gets 200mpg, etc.

patents are available from other avenues that the US patent office.  Get an EU patent or patent it in japan, canada, etc.....conspiracy theories are the shield of crackpots and snake oil salesmen of our time.

IF this was reality, nobody could stop the spread of the technology, not even big US business.  Don't you think that the chinese or other governments with wildly expanding population and industrial bases would be MORE than happy to buy up the technology and develop it mainstream?

How can this version explain anything.  He doesn't show you the five minutes that the machine is supposed to be self powered.  If this machine is working at overunity then why does it not run forever?

If this machine is working at overunity then why does it not run forever?

I never promised you forever, baby... just 5 minutes of 100% efficiency.  Now get lost, cab fare's on the dining room table.

Ok, some of the responces were much better.    But now, how do you
explain this guys version:

 http://jnaudin.free.fr/html/nwjlself.htm

Which is self running for 5 minutes without any power source?

How can this version explain anything.  He doesn't show you the five minutes that the machine is supposed to be self powered.  If this machine is working at overunity then why does it not run forever?

That's not really the point.  If you put X energy into a system and get X+Y energy out, you have over 100% efficiency, which is what this guy is claiming.  He's using it to power lamps, so it can't self-sustain.  He doesn't explain why he doesn't put the excess energy back into the motor to make it perpetual.

In other words, his demonstration appears to be valid, but his math and/or methods are wrong and he knows it.

I once caught a very early sunday morning broadcast here in DFW where a christian "scientist" was explaining how dinosaurs and men lived together and the earth was less than a quarter the present size (less gravity for the dinos).  He used a lot of pseudo-scientific jargon and math to make a very convincing argument.  He moved quickly enough from point to point that I couldn't easily find the problems with his math or logic.  So he convinced me that 5000 years ago the Earth was the size of the moon.

A challenge for Xiaou2:  I saw someone saw a woman in half, then put her back together again.  Disprove it!

A spinner in the best conditions can spin for like 1 minute.   A motor has much more friction and resistence.  5 minutes is an amazing feat.

did i not mention gyros already?

You guys think this man's a crackpot, search for "Hutchinson Effect" on Youtube.  You'll find a guy (who incidentally lives in an apartment, on welfare) who plays with magnets, films stuff upside down (so it looks like they are levitating rather than falling), etc... He's got plenty of shmucks believing his crap too...

i stopped reading when he described faraday as a mechanical genius. he hasnt even attributed the right skills to the right people! nickolas otto was a mechanical genius, charles parsons was a mechanical genius. faraday is a genius because he was probably the first modern physicist. this with only a basic understanding of maths...

edit; too hard to read all that. wikipedia makes for mucher easier reading (",)

Incorrect danny.  Dopes in North America say gyros.  Those who know better say yiros just like yourself.

I suppose if Chad is comparing places that sell gyros (the food item) to Wendy's or just his local area, then true enough, not many places sell them.  Around my area, places that sell gyros are about as common as an Arby's (means nothing to you, danny, other than to say Wisconsin has an oddly high amount of gyro-selling establishments.)

well, to be fair, its spelt with a gamma in greek (γύρος) so its a throat-clearing sound rather than Y or G. still, they are tasty...

oh, and back to our friendly crackpot. this is from the straight dope:

According to the Mississippi Press, Newman said he was ordered by God to marry both his 30-year-old secretary and her 8-year-old daughter. Newman complied--God presided over the ceremony--and happily notified the world in a 12-page press release. (One copy was sent to the Ayatollah Khomeini.)

The only problem--well, maybe not the only problem--was that Newman was already married to a third woman. Authorities promptly removed the eight-year-old from Joe's home, though he said he had not consummated the marriage. Newman, who once ran for president on God's instructions, angrily declared that this shabby treatment was going to get God really PO'ed. "I wouldn't be a bit surprised if this does not result that God will place misery upon the state of Mississippi.... I can see the handwriting on the wall and the people of Mississippi had better wake up."

I can't think of any places in my local area that carry them.  In other areas of MA only the little greek roast beef places have them and I've never heard of anyone actually ordering one here.  In Boston you can get them a little more commonly but in Boston you can get anything.

Gyros create a force that helps maintain orientation. I believe what you want to refer to in this case is a flywheel. In newman's case, he effectively has a massive flywheel in the large magnet. If his measurement device to determine the velocity of the "flywheel" was slighty less inaccurate than it should be, the it would appear that the device was producing more than it was using.

The two keys in this process are:
1. He always has to prime the system - kind of like a flywheel.
2. It only works for a certain amount of time - also like a flywheel.

actually the reason i mentioned a gyro is as an example of how long a low friction flywheel will turn for when there is no power. when you shut down the engine of a light plane, you shut down the vacuum for the gyro (the gyro is spun via a vacuum passing over its surface). you can hear the gyro spinning for quite a while after the power is cut. this is an example of a real object rather than a thought experiment.

the father of a friend of mine (sadly) is trying to build a perpetual motion machine. ive always been too embarrassed to tell him it wont work. every new incarnation begs the question"why is this more efficient than a flywheel, with its single part but will still come to a stop when power is removed regardless?" interestingly, he does have a rather large steel flywheel that he had machined as part of one of his machines. it never occured to him that the best he can do is JUST that flywheel...
