DS Lite & Datel Max Media Dock
« on: February 05, 2007, 04:47:46 am »
Well, I had some Christmas money lying around, and our local BB finally got in some more DS Lites yesterday morning, so I am now the proud owner of an Onyx DS Lite.  One of the ladies in charge at Best Buy was great yesterday...she came out to see what myself and the other person were waiting for and then went back in and "held" them for us so we didn't have to really fight the crowd.

Ok, enough there...because of 4 year old, went to Wal Mart yesterday to get screen protectors and saw this thing called a Datel Max Media Dock for $38 (rounded).  It is used to play video, mp3, homebrew on the DS or DS lite.  I've done my reading on here and know that a lot of you use M3 or passkey items, but wondered if you knew anything about this product and if it would fit my needs for running emulators as I'm less a developer and more a game player.

Thanks!

I've seen the same thing at Wal Mart.  I'd like to know if it runs emulators too!

I haven't heard of any such capabilities.  But that could be because the other products you listed aren't expensive or hard to come by.  If they were, then people would probably be more crafty in expoiting the off-the-shelf stuff.

If you can hold off a short while, my goodies should be in soon.  And you can get exactly what you are looking for for about the same price as the media-only device.

Watch for my thread in the B/S/T section for more info.

Media Max Dock can play homebrew / emulators, there is a patcher program for .nds files that I believe is called Maximum Overload.

Although from what I've read and seen in the forums I think the support for homebrew/emu/.nds file stuff on it is pretty sketchy/crappy.  I'm pretty sure it's running a 4gb Microdrive in it, so expect your DS battery to be cut down a lot. I Use a MicroDrive in mine and my battery life is cut in about 1/2, I have a sweet triple battery pack for long trips so it doesn't bother me to much.

That's sort of what I'd gathered too.  Yet, however, they've now released a cheaper one gig version that comes with a more flush fitting GBA card as well as the NDS card for $79.99....and I've not seen any reports on that really, just the 4 GB version.

That's one reason I'm waiting to hear what Stobe's got...if I'm going to put money into the cards, I want something that will play whichever emu I'd like to run on the DS (or at least those available for it).

Ok, two things:

1) Stobe's a wonder.  I paid him on Wednesday, I had my products Friday.   :applaud: :notworthy:

2) If you are reading this, wondering which way to go, DON'T bother with the Datel product.  I'm basically a rookie at all this fancy stuff, but even I figured out how to load up the R4 and the Cyclos....and they are marvelous creations for less than the Datel (at least through Stobe they were).
