Custom LED project need input
« on: January 30, 2007, 08:08:06 pm »
I know this isn't arcade related but I don't know where else to turn for LED advice. If it belongs in another forum feel free to move it. I want to put LEDs into the intake tubes on my bike indicated in yellow. These LEDs would be a replacement for the stock turn signals located in the red circles. I need really bright LEDs for visibility reasons, I am guessing I will be using between 10-15 in each tube. The tube is somewhat of an oval shape behind the plastic covers, I plan to mount them in a ring format. Basically what I need to know is how to wire them, especially with the right resistor, and where to buy LEDs that will work well for this project. I bought some at radioshack for another bike related project before and they were not bright at all. I will be needing amber colored ones. Thanks guys.

If you're intending on doing this to REPLACE the current indicators you might want to firstly check the legal ramifications of such a mod which may void any insurance as well... not to mention the safety aspect of things..

As long as the indicators are visible during the day and night they will pass inspection. I have already looked into that and could simply buy LED replacements and stick them in there but would be a hack job and it would block a lot of air flow. As far as insurances go if it passes inspection then it is covered to be on the road. For safety there is a reason I want them to be bright, I am not looking to eliminate the indicators but simply relocate. I appreciate your input though.

Leave the indicators with bulbs u can get phantom bulbs they have a silverish coating which when put into the housing removes all that orange reflection u see in yours right now.

Then you can do leds in the lil vent thingys i have led boards in my car for my parkers and thoese are bloody bright they light a dark place a nice soft white but look like mean ass hid's if u driveby.

I use these i love them they are more powerful than a 1wat luxeon led and low power so id see if u can get something like that.

They are from jaycar.com.au you can order for usa on the site if u really wanted them

Thanks that's not really gonna work though. I am removing the mirrors with the turn signals in them and putting on ones that do not have the signals in them.  That thingy you are referring to is my intake tubes for my air filter. Mounting some LEDs in there by drilling the holes into the tubes won't block all that much air flow at all but putting a circuit board in like you posted would definitely affect it. Thanks for the option though.
