Do they make screws without a recess?
« on: January 30, 2007, 01:34:05 pm »
I'm wondering if they make screws (and where to find them) that don't have recesses in them.  I want some screws that are perfectly flat on the top so I can have them be flush on my control panel since they are screwed directly into the Formica and show.

I've heard that these screws do exist, and you basically just use pliers or whatever to screw them in from the bottom.  Thanks!

I used these to cover screwheads on my cabinet and they look VERY nice:

They come in almost any color.  You can see the difference in this picture on my cab (the screws on the left are covered and the screws on the right are not):

Hey, that looks like it could be the best idea.  Thanks so much for that info!

Isn't a screw with no recess called a nail?

Any screw will be flush with your top if you countersink it properly. Perhaps you need to stop by McFeelys and take a look at their screw options? If you can't get it there, chances are you don't need it. You might look at their Joint Connector Wood Bolt (JCBW)  screws or wafer-head screws (which are really a bolt, I think). Confirmat screws also work well in MDF and PB.

hahaha, I didn't even think about that.  Some guy at work told me that he thought they made screws without the recess.  I guess I can try a bolt and a nut.  I should have thought of that in the first place since i use nuts & bolts anyway to hold the joysticks in place.  However I like the idea of the screw caps javeryh was talking about.  That may make it look more professional.

They also don't make the JCBW in black.  Its pretty hard to find bolts in black, which is probably why I had screws on my mind... :dunno

Yes, but they make spray paint in black. They also make peel-and-stick caps that come in a wide variety of shapes and colors.
