BYOAC Tournament
« on: January 30, 2007, 09:16:05 am »
I am pretty sure this has been discussed before (how could it not be?), but I think we should have gaming tournaments. With lots of emulators supporting online play,  there is no reason why we can't do this.

So, whadya think?

List of emus with netplay:

NES: Nestopia
SNES: Snes9k
N64: 1964
Genesis: Gens
SMS: FreezeSMS?
2600: PCAE
PSX: EPSXe
Intellivision (ew): Bliss
Amiga: WinUAE
MAME with Kaillera

Any more?

I added the poll. Make sure you specify which system if you vote 'other'.

That just gave me an idea! We could use the newer Tecmo (the one with the updated rosters). That would be so cool.

It just has to be:

Atari 2600 - Combat (ping pong tanks)
Best 2 out of 3

The advantages are:
The game is super easy
Anyone can learn how to play in 10 seconds (if they somehow lived life without every playing this game(if you call that living))
The matches are timed

So...will we go through with this? 14 voters....2 more and we'll have enough for a tournament.

I guess I'll let the poll run for a few more days...looking to get at least 20-25 voters.

What is the current state of Kaillera? It's been a very long time since I tried to do anything with it, and my results were less than enjoyable.

I agree with Glaine - MAME classics, no continues.

Dunno about MAME with Kaillera, but I recently played with a  Project 64 build that had Kaillera support (Project64k). I was thoroughly impressed. Absolutely no lag in SSB. If it can handle N64 games, I think hope it can handle the rest.  :D

I remember I would only play Tecmo as a kid if the other person promised to play as Green Bay cuz they were crazy slow - don't remember them having many good stats at all in that game.

I always played the original Tecmo Bowl and I was always "da bears". I'm not even a fan, but they were good. The game became almost too easy, though. You could use the same running plays against the computer almost everytime. And intercepting was a snap.

Yeah, but it doesn't matter when you rack up 77 points on 11 touchdown runs of 80 yards.

Now you're being silly, an excellent okoye is almost as fast as bo and can "bust off" almost anyone.

Rankings are as follows:

1 Okoye
2 O Anderson
3 N Anderson
4 B Jackson
5 T Thomas

Are you sure you aren't giving Otis the nod due to a little Giants bias?  ;D

If I am playing 1 player, I will take Bo all day long. If I am playing against an actual human, I take Okoye. A good player can shut down the infamous zig-zag with relative ease, but that doesn't matter when Okoye turns them into his ---smurfette---.

If it was just a Giants thing for me he would be first.

Fast RB's who can break tackles are first, RB'S who are just fast are after the rest. 2 skill players in this case.

OK...guess MAME is the winner...well, here's how it'll work:

Everyone who wants to play MAME games should reply with the game they want to play and the rules that they believe should be implemented. If you agree with someone else exactly, just write "I second ___'s post" or whatever. Then I'll create another poll and we'll vote on which game.

OK? Or do you guys know a better way of doing this?
