my furry cab(almost done)

hello poeple,umm... yea, its a basic mame cab built on a limited budget,its not completely done yet, but i think it turned out decent so far;

the mouse thing is temporary, my tb still gotta be hooked up, and my keyboard has a mouse on it too.

Why? Was it easier to glue that stuff on than to paint? I'm also befuddled by the recent rash of angled buttons. I have never seen this on an actual cab, but this is like the sixth cab I've seen with angled buttons recently.

What really matters is that it plays the games you want and is fun. I'd say it's a good first effort.

for the keyboard im just going to cut  a back for it to separate it from the rest of the cab.

They aren't particularly hard, just really not worth it IMHO. You can get a keywiz for $25, and you'll probably spend at least half of that rounding up all the tools and materials for the hack.

On the other hand I kinda liked building mine. Here is a good tutorial on building one:

yea... my dad helped a bit but i made the designes and told him what to drill and where .

Didn't Neo Geo systems have angled buttons? I plan on angling my own, actually more of a curve. It fits the fingers better and I'm hoping it'll be more comfortable. But, of course, everyone's hands are different.

i put them like that because its more confortable,
i use my pointer and middle finger and your middle finger is (supposed to be) longer than your pointer. and thats just the button scheme i thought of and it can be sort of universal...
i got those for most games because there easy to get used to and the one on the left for galaga and centepede

Don't really mean to knock it as I haven't really tried it as the saying goes. I'm definitely a big fan of comfort, but I'm also somewhat locked into the old standards. I guess once I get around to building a test panel I may as well at least experiment with the idea.

In any case, great job on getting a working cab started/half-finished.

I hate to be mean too, but that is true. And I'm 15 with no job. It would be better next time to buy a used cab for 50-100$  I think (like I did). My project is coming out to about $200. That's not too much. And it looks quite purty, if I do say so myself. (I'll upload pics when I finish of course, not yet.)

But I must congratulate you, I did take the easy way by restoring an original. At least yours is hand made!

I was worried when I clicked on this thread that this was a cabinet made by one of those creepy "furries" (my curiosity got the best of me, so I clicked). The fact that it's not, makes this cab a 10 in my book.

It is impressive that a 14YO kid had the desire to build a cab. Even more impressive that it isn't a total VapourCade or NonCade (heck, I haven't got my Vertical MAME done yet and I had all of the components on hand). And most impressive that he was willing to share.

As for the cabinet itself, I see it as a sort of homage to Sasquatch with the design (kinda looks like Arcade Paradise I) and fur ... and I can respect that.

Well the way I saw it, I didn't want to be mean but I did want to be honest. And my only option was to add a disclaimer before I based my opinion. I mean, what was I supposed to do? Lie that I liked it?
 

And yes it is good for having only used scrap and very little money. But honestly, for that small budget and wood, I would have just made the control panel only.

I would have killed (ok perhaps not killed) for something like like that back when I was 14. It is far better than that useless Atari 2600 joystick we used to have to use at home. I cringe just thinking about it.

Have you thought about putting something in the panel that lies just above the CP and right below the monitor?

I think if you embellish it with some graphics, even part of a poster, it will be a welcome addition.  Just find something that will draw the player "into the monitor" so to speak.
