Help!!!! DOA4 Joystick
« on: January 22, 2007, 03:49:39 pm »
I need to know how to rewire the buttons on this joystick. I have never done this before so I need help. This layout really sucks for UMK3 on 360 so I want to make it a standard layout. Can anyone help???

I don't know what UMK3 is, but can't you change the button layout in the options menu?

The Buttons on a DOA stick are soldered to a PCB. In order to change the button layout, you will need to block off the current then use solid wire to the direction you want. I can't think of the correct lingo to use right now, but maybe someone can explain what I am trying to say.

Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. I noticed when I opened it that it was on a PCB. I was hoping it was wired . When I was the PCB :banghead: :dunno I had no idea what to do.

If you are familiar with the traces on a PCB, then this is doable. If you can determine which trace is ground and which trace is not, then you would need to scratch off the trace on the PCB that isn't ground. Then take solid wire and solder the trace to the button of your choice. It's not as easy as it sounds, so I wouldn't try it unless you know what you are doing.

Couldn't you just swap the wires from where they connect to each button to the more convenient button?

See...why didn't I think of that. Listen to this man, and not me. This method is much easier.

Well there aren't actually any wires to swap, since the buttons are mounted to the PCB's. I actually did rearrange my DOA4 stick's buttons to the more standard layout of:

X:Y:L
A:B:R

What I did was take all the buttons off the PCB, and then just ran wires to all the contacts.

Be warned that the desoldering of the buttons isn't the easiest thing in the world to do though, especially if you have no experience with such.

[EDIT]

Actually... There were wires that could be swapped.

The controller has 3 PCB's. One for the buttons up top, and then 2 for the main buttons. One of the ones for the main buttons was just a button PCB, and that one is able to just have its connecting wires swapped.

It has been a long time since I modded mine, but if memory serves it was only 2 of the six buttons that actually required desoldering from the PCB (A and I think B).

I would like to find a good joystick that works on the xbox360 so I can play UMK 3 online. I also have a hotrod joystick if I could mod that like a rewire that would be great,or maybe there is an adapter out there. That would be heaven.
