This isn't new info, it's just finally confirmed.  Personally I'm not holding my breath for anything decent.  If the scifi channel has proven anything, it's that they can't make a movie worth a crap.  Their tv shows turn out great, the movies suck though.  It'll only work if hte scifi channel has little to no involvement and even then it probably won't work because the X-files movie, and Serenity has shown us that even if a tv series is really good, you can't expect people to go to a movie that requires you to be familiar with the series. 

My guess, they'll end up being released as "scifi saturday" movies in the end.
