Future suit of armor for military?
« on: January 16, 2007, 11:04:16 pm »
The inventor created this suit with inspiration from Star Wars, Halo and Robocop.  The suit looks a little odd to me, but I wouldn't mind trying it out.

Here is the story:

Here is a video of the inventor in the suit:

I wonder if the US military will ever decide to go with fully armored body suits, like this one?

Just to clarify - the phrase "fully armoured" is not accurate. All of the major joints are exposed when wearing this suit, which is generally the reason they are never seriously considered by most militaries. I'm not saying it wouldn't help reduce casualties, but if 'the troops' are still scavanging for scrap metal to re-enforce their vehicles I can't see any money being spent on 'luxuries' like this.  :dunno

There is also the very real increase in injuries that will be caused by the fact that they have reduced visability and mobility while wearing it, which could be almost as important as armour in some situations of urban warfare.  :'(
Done. SLATFATF.

"Back in 1984, Hurtubise survived a grizzly bear attack after which he decided to develop a suit that would allow a person to observe grizzly bears from a close distance."

Ok are you really going to trust your life to a guy that:

a.  Was stupid/drunk enough to get attacked by a bear, an animal that normally runs from humans.
b.  Thought that enough people had fallen into a similar situation to merit the design of a protective suit.
c.  Would be stupid/drunk enough to want to get closer to bears AFTER being mauled?

Ladies and Gentlemen, I rest my case.
