AtomicFE Q
« on: January 16, 2007, 10:21:54 pm »
Downloaded AtomicFE .18.1 and I ran the layoutmanager and thought I had things right but no such luck. I have my background image and my game list, snaps & game info windows but I see nothing in game list or game info windows. I do see the snap images and I can scroll through my games with the up/down arrow keys and the snaps change but I don't see the game list nor do I see any info in the game info window. Obviously missing something simple but can't see it.

I have searched this forum and the official AtomicFE one but didn't find any answers. I did try and move my game list up the list (or down) to bring it to the foreground but that didn't help...???

I have not ran lay out manager myself
did you have a game list before you ran lay out manager?
did Atomic show a black screen and count your roms
this is when Atomic sets up the game list.

roms must be in the roms folder that atomic has.
no subfolders. ( I mean Atomic can not be in drive C and try to point the FE to another drive were you might have your roms)

Hi,

I think your problem is just a problem of object layer . (position in the list in the object selector).

In the object selector on the left,  more the object is up on the list  more it will be on a background layer.

So your list should be down in the Object Selector and your background up.

What kind of list do you use?  Text ? or Picture List?

Zip your layout folder and send it to me by mail, if you want, i will look and say you precisly where is the problem.

It is not true.  ;)  You can put your roms absolutly where you want. Just have to configure Atomic to say where are your roms by changing the ROM Folder of your configuration file. It can be on a different drive.

I don't know if we are really  talking of the same thing, because this feature is doable since Atomic 0.01 ....

Youki,

I did try and move the objects up and down in the list and I think it did help but only to avoid another issues later. Once I moved my list down (to the foreground) I then saw wavy lines in the window on the design layout. I can scroll through the list but just can't see the list.

My game list was generated when I first ran atomic.exe, it did walk through my rom folder. I have Mamewah loaded and running so I am familiar with an FE general architecture it's just the specifics I'm having issues with.

There is one thing that I did find that I'm 90% sure is the problem; though I still don't know how to fix. When I select my text list and then in the Tools window I go to one of the tabs I forget the name but it is where you select your game list type Free-mode or the other. I didn't make any changes but I select the "Editor" on the one that it was using and all I see is a black screen. I load the default A_FE layout (space one) and compared the two. The space one has text boxes on that screen which correspond to the lists in the text/game list in the layout manager. My text window has no entries like this but I don't know how to get them there...?

If I still need to zip up my layout folder I'll do so but wanted to pass along some additional info first as I think this is the real problem...

Thanks for the additionnal information. But like that i have no real idea, i need your layout to understand well.  As soon as i receive it , i will check and give you your answer.

Thanks.

Ok, i received your layout.

The problems is simply you put the number of visible item in the list to 0 .

-Select your list object
-go on the General tab
-On the field Nb items ,put 20  instead of 0.

It will solve your pb!  ;)

Nice layout!  :)

I figured it was a simply fix. I read through most of the documentation pdf but didn't find any reference to that item; maybe just overlooked it because I didn't know what nb stood for.

Thanks for the help, I'll be donating on your site as it looks like I will continue to use your FE and you obviously put a lot of time and effort into it...

OK, another road bump. I changed the "nb" setting and I now see the begining of my list but the list never changes and I don't see the selection bar. I can still scroll through the games as the snap images change but the game list doesn't move or show any signs of life...?

I think the cause it is because AtomicFE save the list selection position when you exit Atomic.
So if you ran atomic with a layout where there is a list that can display 30 items and you are on the 25th when you exit. Atomic save 25 as position.

Then if you change the layout and now the new layout displays only 10 items...  Atomic will select the 25th... so you don't see the selection. You have to go up in the list until the selection appears.  Or simply delete all <something>.mem  file you find in the Atomic folder.

Another cause, could be that you use alpha blending for the selection and you put a to low value , so the selection appear totally transparent.   But i guess the problem in your case is the first statement.

Selection Bar: I'll change the alpha setting I had just copied that from the space demo layout just to see if I could get it to work.

Game List Moving: I understand the saving position of the last game played but my list always displays at the top of my list, actually I think it starts with "A" and not the numbers. Even if I scroll all the way to the top of my list, to the games that I can see on my list, I still don't see the selection bar and the game list doesn't scroll when I us the up/down arrow keys to scroll through my list again. It's very strange like I missing some kind of link between the game lists and the selection...

Another idea.

May be you checked the "Fix Selection" option and set the "selection position"  to a non-visible item.

Resend me your layout, i wil check what happens. Because on the previous one you sent me, i have not problem once i put nb items to 20.

Did you try to remove all your .mem file?

Got it working. I don't know what it was but I just deleted everything; includeing A-FE, and re-installed and re-created my layout and then it worked. So not sure what it was but all is good so far. Working on multiple list next...
