Games are better today, by far, than they have ever been before. Grand Theft Auto San Andreas is better than 99% of every game that ever came before it, and 100% of any game that came more than 10 years before it. Nearly the same goes for Resident Evil 4, Super Mario 64, practically ever Zelda game ever released . . .
The issue here is that games evolve and people don't. I work with people who HATE computers. They have no use for them. It pisses them off that their superiors expect them to make use of them and all the things like internet and email that go along with them. Of course, these people are old 100% of the time, and the problem isn't that computers are useless, it's that these people are beyond the point in their lives when they want to learn new things. Of course, this point doesn't just hit you one day like a ton of bricks. It creeps up on you as you age. You can't put a finger on the day when new things lost their appeal.
But it is happening to all of you who are complaining about the state of modern gaming.
You are 0n crack.
Super Mario 64 is absolutly Crap compared to the 2d version. As in 3d space, its too easy to
simply avoid thing by walking arround them. In 2d its more challenging because you have
less option available.. and need to actually confront dangers.
The Graphics for the 3d mario stink too. Horrid low detail generic. Sickening.
Many 3d games share this sadness.. as using high quality art is too costly
in space and processing power. Not to mention too costly because of all
the additional sides needed. The 3d animations are usually inferior too...
with characters looking odd and having movments like epeleptic seizures.
Collision errors and Camera issues always abound too.
Ugg, and all the damn auto-camera pans at varried angles,
replays..etc.. just slow an already slow game down
even more. Its pathetic.
I think most games are getting Worse and Worse. Most games are so easy,
they take less than a day to complete. There is rarely any replay value
either.
FPS's are boaring yawnfests. They lack any real skills needed, and never
present any arenalin paced moments. For a REAL challange, Robotron
delivers more furrious nonstop heart pumping action and challange than
all the FPS's together.
And for challenge, any 6 yrs old can easily play FPS games well.. but
have them try a 2d mario game.. and they will end up throwing the
controller thru a window after a few minutes of fusteration. Heck,
even Asteroids deluxe is more challenging than almost Any game
thats new and out there today.
People who seem to like these 3d FPS games, have no real skill or
give up too easily. Usually intellectual types who arnt too coordinated,
and want thier games to be easy 'walk-thru' like movies.
"Grand Theft Auto San Andreas is better than 99%" LOL
How lame is that. That game has just about No gamplay at all.
No intensity nor real challenge. I can think of TONS of games
from the past that Kick its --I'm attempting to get by the auto-censor and should be beaten after I re-read the rules-- to hell. The only reason you
may be claiming this, is because you are thinking graphics
detail and free roaming ability. Neither of these make a
good game, nor a better game.
A game of Spy Hunter takes more skill and has more intensity,
challenge, and probably even better cooperative enemy AI than
anything found in GTAsa.
"The issue here is that games evolve and people don't. "
BS. There are plenty of Old people who use computers
by choice. A REAL gamer chooses a game not based on
what year it was made.. but how fun, challenging
and sometimes how replayable it is.
Games are not always evolving. In many
cases.. they are De-volving.
Many of us Older people have witnesses so many Great
games, movies and music.. that we have so much more
examples to compare it against. We are now very tough
critics.. because weve seen and played it all.
Look at the movies for example. Many sequals
Stink. It has Nothing to do with technological advances.
And no matter how old you are... you can easily say
that you may think Aliens is far better a movie (IMOP) than
Alien. And almost anyone (imop) can agree that anything
after either of those was horrendously awefull. However,
heres the funny thing... If a younger gen saw the later
movies.. and never saw the originals... they may have a
very different opinion. Because they have less to
compare it against... or are comparing to inferior things.
Then, the new gen-r complains that 'ohh... your just old'.
No, its just that we are more experienced and knowlegable.
Many newbies are the ones who are jaded to anything from
the past. As they cant get past the fact that someone from
thier gen didnt make it.. Or that the graphics dont cut
it for them.
One such person, I litterally forced him to play Two Tigers
with me. At first, he was crying at how awefull the thing
looked. Even durrring the first few minutes he wasnt
feeling it... yet, after he started to let go of the critisim..
and actually wasnt dying so often... he started to love it.
We then played to like level 10 one day.. which was insane.
Simularly, he had the same reaction to Robotron... first
scowling at it... then thinking..its 'ok'... then loving it
and getting up to level 32.
And thats a guy whos 5yrs younger than me, whos played
and loves those FPS type games like Halflife, GTA etc..
