Officially handed over the crown to my oldest son last night
« on: January 19, 2007, 10:20:18 am »
Used to be I could school him at any video game, classic or console. He beat me at Wii baseball a few weeks ago and tonight I watched him play Tony Hawk P8 on the XBox 360 and for the first time thought, "There's no way I could do any of that." He plays it like he lives in the town the game takes place in. Have any of you been surpassed by your kids. I fee like a really old 37 right now.  :hissy: He's 11 by the way.
I've got a fever...

Yes! The console was Gamecube, the games were: MarioKart and Super Monkey Ball. While I never played these games, I was pretty confident that I could win against my 9 year old nephew and 8 year old neice. It was so hard to be a good sport and play off the loss! Not only did they whip up on me, they did it while giggling, swinging their feet and talking with each other.

All I can tell you is... we'll always have Galaga! Kids today don't have the patience to play a game thats just 1 level over and over that increasingly becomes more difficult.

Oh, yeah I have.  The Nintendo Wii - Wii Sports - Tennis.  My four year old has discovered the secret "smoking" service game...and can hit it every time.  She beats the pants off my wife and myself on a regular basis!

My 14 year old nephew beat me something like 7,000 to 3 in a game of Madden. I considered jumping in front of oncoming traffic.

I thought this was a thread for handing crowns over to kids. It sounds like everyone here is having their crowns snatched from their hands!  ;)

Just bust out the older games (a relative term) and see how they do. We will always own the games made before 2000.

Only counts if you play the game yourself fairly frequently.  THAT'S when you hand it over.

I'm 27, so I've still got quite a few good competitive years left in me.

I dunno, some of the newer shumps come to mind as an exception to that.  (Ikaruga and the like.)  But yeah, you guys aren't "handing" over anything.  Your crowns are forcably removed by order of the state of ownage.

^I have no idea where that came from, my appologies.

Sometimes the truth is painful.

Here at the local YMCA they set up a teen workout center.  They have a few gamebikes, some smaller weight stations, some ball throwing target game, and a couple of DDR setups (PS2) with LCDs in the corner.  I went in there to play foosball with my kids and decided to put in a couple of DDR songs.  2 songs in I had come up with a couple of really good scores (on 2 foot songs) and a few kids were watching.  I was like, yeah, an arcade crowd, until I heard one kid say "hey, check out the old guy playing DDR" and "it's only a 2 foot song, maybe he'll leave soon".

My son is 8 and I'm 30.  He tries and tries but that fool can't beat me at anything.  I'm a beast!

Stay away from those DDR games.  99% of Teenagers look stupid playing that ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---.  For an old guy the percentage goes higher.

Who cares how people look?  Not doing enjoyable things because you may look foolish is one of the ways a person becomes old.

I can still bench mccoy's mom 4-5 times.  6 or 7 if she cashed in her soda bottles this week.

I'll agree with Chad, that game is fun stuff. I've been made fun of more than once but it doesn't matter, that and Beatmania = good times.

Still, little kids shouldn't say stuff like that around you (lolxxorz, he is teh old, this song is eZ, we are so kewl) - thats a punching offense.

Besides, if anyone could step up and do 9 footers it wouldn't be a good game right?

Yeah, especially since it's a $15 entry level pad.  No one can do 9 footers on one of those.

I don't think punching an 11 year old would go over well at the YMCA.  No matter how fat the little turd was (he was breathing hard just from walking over).

Yeah, I don't like doing hard songs on my friend's soft pads cuz if I were to tear it up I would feel bad.

But don't feel bad about beating kids in public, nothing says "My daddies a hero" like a room full of bloody faced prepubescents with a new sense of respect and 2 officers dragging you away.
