Wells Gardner 19K4914 image won't fully center horizontally
« on: January 17, 2007, 09:37:12 pm »
Greetings fellow arcade nuts!!!

I have a Wells 19K4914 that I pulled out of an old Gauntlet cabinet that I am restoring.  I am testing the monitor using the video signal from my Centipede and I got the image to sync, but it won't center horizontally (won't center vertically if we are talking about Centipede).   I only get half the image on one side of the monitor, and a little bit of the other half on the other side.

I have played with the H-Hold and the H-centering pots, but it starts to go out of sync if I turn either pot too much.   So I can only get the bottom half of Centipede at the top, and I can see the score on the bottom, then black space in the middle of the screen. Please see pic.

The only remaining adjustment is the H-size coil, but I do not have a plastic tool with me right no so I did not play with that.  The WG 19K4914 has a sticker on it with a diagram of the adjustment pots.  there is something called the "Horiz Raster Shift" but it just looks like a test point pin sticking up, not a pot.

I may borrow a plastic tool for the H-size coil from Huib1 later on to try adjusting it.

In the meantime, does anybody have any suggestions?

Thanks.

I believe those had a "set" of pins that you would move a jumper wire from one to the other in order to "shift" the image.

Is there like two pins near by, one with a removable wire lead on it?

You also may want to meter the pots to be sure that they are functioning fully.
Not a technician . . . . just a DIY'er.

And the most important question: has this monitor been capkitted yet?

I did find some pins with a removable jumper, tried them all, but no change.

Have not metered the pots yet... must retire for tonight, but will continue tinkering tomorrow.

Ken, no cap kit yet.  Just pulled it out of a parted out cabinet to see if it was still alive... looks like I am doing my first cap kit...
