My Non-Traditional Arcade
« on: January 16, 2007, 09:42:33 pm »
The details...
-Living in an apartment in New York City
-No woodworking tools
-No space to do woodworking even I had them
-No desire to deal with the cost or logistics of buying a ready-made cab (not to mention not being able to rotate the screen)

With all that said, what can I accomplish in terms of an "arcade"?

Well this is the best I can come up with. Hey, at least it's not duct taped cardboard boxes.  ;D

Hey, it works! :)

I like the screens of one of my favorite games: Yie Ar Kung-Fu. And Pac-Man cereal? I don't remember that at all. Looks like a collector's dream set up there. Are those the original Star Wars figures packaged?

I appreciate the comments. Yeah, they also made Donkey Kong cereal. They both tasted rather good if memory serves. :) I wanted it up there with the Pac-Man box, but so far I haven't been lucky enough with eBay. Also, if you're wondering why I have a Nintendo box on my arcade, that setup also houses a complete collection of NES and SNES roms. So it's three, three machines in one! hehe. I have the original controllers spooled and hanging on hooks to the right of the joystick. Just gotta plug them into USB in the front of the PC.

Those Star Wars figures on the bookshelf are original. I have about 10 more on my main Star War cabinet that's off-screen to the right. If you're curious about that sort of thing, you can go to http://dukeofcrydee.redirectme.net:8080/ and click "My Collection Photo Gallery (as of 1/8/07)" to see nearly all of what I have. To you and anyone else reading, keep in mind that the blacked out poster in the images above is for a reason. A few images in my collection (that poster, a figure and a few stickers) are of the adult variety. So don't click if you're easily offended.  >:D

I like that you can turn your screen. I may just have to get a  I widescreen lcd. Although, it'd be tough to set it up that way in a cab. I'd love to put all the NES and SNES games on my arcade too.

I have all the original Star Wars figures but not in their packaging. Those are the best.

I figured the blacked out stuff was probably adult material. :)

did you build a coin acceptor box ? (the green metal box in the lower left of your photos).

Nice solution.....and it works so enjoy your rig.  :applaud:
Seriously. Will it fit in my basement or what?

Nice entertainment center.

You have me wondering if the bubble gum in those packs are still fresh. I've always
loved hockey card gum. No seriously don't try it for my benefit. Those packs could be worth a few
bucks to a serious collector.

Oh I wish I was that clever and electronically talented. No, that green metal box is my old arcade setup that I kept in my living room, when it was just S-Video to a 27" TV, an old HotRod joystick and my coffee table. The box is a real military ammunition can that I bastardized into a PC. You can see the details here.

Oh and yes, I know black electrical tape for the flight switch is god aweful. I honestly couldn't figure out how to install it, but I did a couple weeks after and was just to lazy to fix it. :)

Thanks for the comments. The rotating screen is simply a 20" widescreen Dell LCD computer monitor. Sure the aspect ratios aren't accurate, but it horizontal stretch and vertical pinch aren't aweful IMO, and I enjoy the sheer size of it and think it more than makes up for it. To each his own though.

Thanks. Dude, even though I have extra card packs, those things are pushing 30 years old. Maybe they'd still be good if they were Twinkies though.  ;D

I replaced all of the photos and added a couple more. I managed to get lucky on eBay and get all of the collectibles I wanted to finish off the "arcade". Well, all of the collectibles I can fit on there anyway. :)
