Ive got a bit bored of my PSP of late with the lack of decent games coming out. Too be honest I ony really really use it for emulation nowadays.

Im thinking of getting a DS lite as there looks to be some good games out for it.

Has anyone got a DS? Do you rate them? Ive not seen one in the flesh let alone had a go on one as yet.

Im also thinking of getting a Supercard or G6/M3 + a Passkey 3 to go with it. Has anyone got this setup or another homebrew, etc setup?

My friend has a DS Lite and I think it's pretty cool. Why not go to your local Best Buy/Circuit City and try it out?

I would also suggest doing a search in the forumz because there have been many topics regarding DS + M3 + Passkey.

I am in the UK and there doesn't seem to be many places where you can try a DS out. Ive pretty much got my mind set on getting one now anyway

I did have a search and found a nice thread which seemed to be praising the M3 ect but the thread seems to be fairly old and I was wondering of there had been any advancements in flashcards etc since.

Im trying to get all the info I can at the moment. I have found a few nice guides etc but I thought I would ask what I consider to be the best knowlegde pool (arcade, console and otherwise) around.

They seem to be an all in one solution (no pass key required) Any views on this?

Oh, by the way, since my last post (about 10 mins ago) I have bought a black DS lite

I have the original DS (Since Release day) and an M3 adapter. I'll probably keep it forever, unless I get a DS lite.

Get an M3 Simply or an R4 if you wan tto play ROMS if you are more interested in having tons of homebrew then pay the extra and get a DS-X. They all have PassMe support.

I picked up an R4 for $44 and a 1 Gig MicroSD for $30. They already released In-Game Reset (IGR) for the R4/M3 (same chip different company).

If you want to just play DS roms them I'd recomend going with the M3 Simply, I have one and it works great. If you also want to play GBA roms then you might consider going with the M3 Lite Perfect instead. Honestly though there are so many great DS games out now and coming soon that you probably won't have time to go back and play any of the old GBA games anyway.

Slot 1 wolutions like the m3 simply, supercard ds, and ds-x are nice. I have a dsx, love it. I am working on my own homebrew.

The issue is slot 1 devices are new. Many homebrew apps assume you are using a slot 2 device. GBA devices have 32k of sram that many homebrew use. Slot 1 devices don't have this.

However, many developers are updating their programs as slot 1 is becoming popular.

First off, it's "Slot 1" not "one slot"

Which is nomenclature for the DS game slot vs. "Slot 2" which is for GBA games...

Using Slot 1 only devices (M3 Simply, R4, DS-X) all give you near 100% compatibility in reference to "backups" of DS roms. I say "near" because some games have issues with playing multi player games. As in they simply will not work when you try. If I understand correctly though, the compatibility is higher for multi player with the slot 1s than it is with slot 2s...

What you can't do with Slot 1 cards is play GBA roms which you could do if you were going the Slot 2 route. Most homebrew works on slot 1 cards and I'm pretty sure all homebrew works with slot 2. See SirPoonga's reply two posts above this one...

Personally, I don't really care too much about playing GBA roms because I have a GBA flash cartridge that I can play on one of my two GBA SPs or my Micro and the only homebrew I think I'll ever use is Moonshell which is compatible with slot 1. Therefor, I'll be buying an M3 Simply just as soon as my tax returns come in. Yea baby!

It would seem lately they have been battling
manufacturing problems.
If serious home-brew support were
on the way it's probably been shelved now.

They had a weird issue, which is why I am waiting for a replacement. One of their vendors made a revision. With the specs given to them it didn;t seem like it would affect anything. Obviously it did affect it. It's just one of the batches and it is taken care of.

I love the device, but they are being a pain with developers. They aren;t releasing any of the specifics that are needed to access the filesystem. If they don;t do something soon they will be left in teh dust.

I got a bad DS-X from the first batch and had to send it back to consolesource for a replacement. That was in the beginning of November. I am still waiting for my replacement. THey claimed they shipped it, but won't supply me with tracking info.

I picked up an R4 from divineo.cn and had it in 3 days. The frontand and ROMS load much faster on it vs. the DS-X.

You can get the R4 with 1GB card for 1/2 the price of the DS-X.

Agreed. I got the DSX for it's development potential. For a regular user I would definitely go with supercard or M3 (The R4 is an M3).

I figured with the usb port they could do some cool stuff. But I now see they are not supporting developers very well. I am probably going to switch to a supercard because there's plenty of developer support for that.

As for emulation, the DS can do NES and somewhat SNES. But the screen resolution is different than a TV. The pictures gets distorted and you loose pixels.

Half truth. The R4 is made utilizing the same hardware by the same factory(R4 makes M3's chips for them) however the firmware/software aspect is different.

The admins over at gbatemp.net seem to favor the R4.

Actually, that makes it a full truth

You can change the firmwares

However I did see pics and the R4 has an extra chip.

I think it was funny when both came out people were wondering if they were the same. I look at the pics and it was obvious. The circuit and screen printing on the circuit board are exactly the same.

Have you seen any reviews of the Supercard DS? I see many M3 and R4 reviews.

I heard the the Supercard has had issues with Sandisk flash cards. I know that a firmware was released to fix the card speed issue (it's automatic now).

gbatemp.net has a nice forum and a few "unofficial reviews" of the Supercard.

No i haven't seen any reviews..but they have a comparison chart of all the slot-1 cards up over at gbatemp.net.

personally i have an order in for the r4...its on the way.
