I'm updating-Questions on Vertical FE
« on: January 11, 2007, 04:40:00 pm »
Hello, I'm in the process of updating my FE on a vertical dislay at 640x480.  Which FE's supports rotation WITHOUT doing a hardware rotation through the video board itself.  AdvanceMenu is discontinued, I remember that Mamewah cannot handle this on it's own, does Mala, or GameEX work for rotations (or any other)?

Thanks gang,
Southpaw

MaLa and GameEX does as you say.  ;)...  Does not use videocard Hardware
Not sure if GameEX cxan handle 640x480  :dunno

Other FE's can do this too. Have a look at the Wiki here:
http://wiki.arcadecontrols.com/wiki/Front-Ends

If you choose to use MaLa then FYI:
It can rotate when triggered by:
* manually
* by vertical game list
* In cocktail mode when the controller on the side it will flip (if required)

Have Fun  :D

AtomicFE supports auto-rotation based on the game. I'll check with Youki to see, but I believe it is not handled via hardware...

Yes, AtomicFE can do that too.

It does not use Hardware.   As all "special" effect in Atomic all is 100% software to be sure it works on all Video Device.

You  can choose to auto-rotate in function of the game or just set the orientation you want at Start.

You can use Rotation in any resolution you want  with any layout you want (including horizontal ones , and what ever the layout resolution is)

I use Mala on my 640x480 vertical setup, but I use iRotate anyways because I want Windows right side up for the odd admin task etc.

Have you tried playing pc games rotated? I was wondering how well it worked when something requires hardware acceleration...

I believe iRotate uses hardware rotation, so it should not slow the system down.

I believe iRotate uses hardware rotation, so it should not slow the system down.

I found for some mame games it caused a problem .

I have had much more success leaving windows as is and letting mame rotate itself and use a FE that rotates itself
