K7000 Reveresed Horiz. Picture

Hey guys, I've recently capped the WG K7000 in my Double Dragon...colors look amazing.

Trouble is...the picture is mirrored. Although it is fun to try and play the game this way, I'd rather it be fixed        I don't understand how this happened seeing as the picture was fine before  so obviously...I did something to it

Can I just switch one of the 2 pairs of Color Connectors? (Red/Blue) (Green,Yellow)  I was on the phone w/ a friends dad who used to repair games and he said it was cool as long as the board isn't keyed to not allow this, which I think it is..not sure.

Hi Joe, I assume the picture was always reversed as a cap kit cannot do that.

Before you change anything double check as many boards have 2 different places the yoke can be plugged in- just in case you are installing to a game that uses a miror to flip it back.

Having said that, almost always the 2 leads that go to the yoke that are Red and Blue are Horizontal, reverse these where it is convenient.
Be careful, do not touch when powered up, they will give a nasty bite.

By the way the other 2 wires will be the vertical usually yellow and green, sometime greey or brown.

The horizontal wires usualy have thicker insulation.

When you say to reverse the wires..you mean to flip the connector that plugs directly into the chassis?  Or am I switching something near the neckboard?

A K7000 has only one place for a yoke to be plugged in.

Usually this plug is in one piece.

Some games it's reversed on, such as Rev-X.

Is your connector in one or two pieces?

Mine has split into 2 connectors...not sure why.

Just reverse the plug, if it is not polarized.

You plugged one in backwards.  Reverse it.  You should be able to tell by matching the break points back up (they should meet in the middle).

I hate monitors so much....its not even funny. Tried switching the connector back to normal but the damage is done I guess.

I doubt it, but just in case flip the board over and check to see if you have not broken a foil. -we should be so lucky
Unforetuatley in a lot of cases this will take out the HOT.

You weren't doing this while it was on were you?
(just curious, because it shouldn't have hurt anything otherwise)

But on the brighter side..... you should already have the parts to fix at least one of them by using parts from the other one since the problems with each are different.

Nope. Funny though...now that I look at it...they were keyed.

If they were keyed, I must have forced it down or something. When you guys said to reverse...you didn't mean that I was supposed to swap places between the Green/Yellow  and the Blue/Red did you?

All I did was reverse the Blue/Red to Red/Blue  and booM! my heart sank...I could feel it in the pit of stomach. Kinda felt like when the other K7000 did this.

The other K7000 went out because of a botched capkit ( it was my first one, lifted the pad on the trace ). Since then, I'd capped a k4900 for my MKIII w/ NO problems at all. "This" K7000 capkit went great, no problems...and up until the plug reverse had great picture, just backwards.

Can anyone pull a flowchart for me and point me in the right direction? Hoping this will be an easy fix. I have to order a few thing from Bob Roberts but I'm waiting to see if theres anything I should include in the order for this monitor.

ABSOLUTELY NOT !! NO !! NADA !! NILL !!

Point made.....

All I did was reverse the Blue/Red to Red/Blue 

What you did then was correct.  Just by pulling that pair of wires up and switching those TWO around leaving the green and yellow ones alone.

Will do, what exactly am I checking for? Should there be noticeable damage to something? Sorry, I'm not very experienced with this.

Someone awhile back sent my this .PDF for the K7000 w/ pictures of Horizontal and Vertical Deflection ( along w/ other problems ) and specifics to troubleshoot them...don't know what or where that came from.

You are looking for cracked solder joints.  Here are a couple of pics:





Reflow bad looking solder joints with new solder.  I have fixed a couple chassis myself by just reflowing bad solder joints.
