Replacement chassis for Sharp XM-2001
« on: December 29, 2006, 10:56:11 am »
Hey all, the monitor in my Vidicators blew the flyback, so now I am looking for a replacement chassis for the Sharp XM-2001 that is in it. I would prefer one from Alva Amusements, but it does not look like they sell a 19" chassis with the smaller 8-pin neckboard.

Anyone have any suggestions?

The Sharp is a low impedance 8 pin 100 volt chassis. Normally used in Nintendo applications as it has an audio amplifier and video inverter built-in. Since you have it in a Vindicators, does the cabinet have provisions for 120 volts isolated to the monitor? Do you need an audio amplifier?

I did one of these Sharp monitors over a year ago in a conversion cabinet and used a 8liners (Jen Shinn) replacement chassis. It worked out ok and I think I put it in a Nintendo cab that was converted to Shinobi.

If you can get 120 volts AC and through an isolation transformer, the Alva Amusement/Wei-ya chassis # 1220-S (small neck) for just $45 will be perfect. If your cab only provides 100 volts then you'd need Wei-ya model 2420-S or 2620-S which I think Alva would have to order from Wei-ya.

Well it's weird, but it looks like this is the original monitor for this machine, and I do not believe that the audio portion of the monitor was being used. As for the voltage, changing that will be no big deal as I have tons of 1:1 iso transformers around. I could just toss in one of the other multitude of 19" monitors I have, but I'd like to keep this tube in the machine to match up the burn. :)

Thanks for your advice Ken.

Look at the cabinet power chassis schematics. The main transformer may have 100 and 120 volt monitor taps you could select. Measure the power present at the monitor power connector now to see what voltage it is. If you could use the 1220-S chassis, it would save you a bundle and bring back your dead monitor.

The flybacks for the Sharp have been NLA for a long time.
