I use Avalaunch and Qwix because of the great speed boost you get.

I'm always surprised at how few people know about this.  The speed boost is huge.  I install Avalaunch on every Xbox I mod fore this reason alone (I haven't run into any games that will run in Avalaunch but not in XBMC).   But, like you, I use XBMC exclusively as a dashboard.

How much faster is it?  I was moving gigs of stuff to and from my Xbox last night and it was up to 5MB/s at times with XBMC running.

You can easily get 8MB/s and sometimes almost 10

The speed boost is especially apparent when you are sending a lot of small files because it takes FOREVER with standard FTP.

But it is actually much faster to make an ISO with qwix and send that over to take advantage of the full speed.

For example, download the latest XBMC and extract it. There are roughly a billion files in there. Ftping them would take forever, and using avalaunch and qwix would take slightly less than forever. But if you use Qwix to make an iso out of the files, then send the iso over to the box (it will automatically extract the iso in the process) it only takes a couple minutes.

Why don't they build this speed booster into XBMC? Maybe team Avalaunch (if there is still such a thing) is stingy with the code.

Does anyone here use the new wide icons? I just started and they are WAY better IMO. I have made and uploaded about 30 so far. You can get them at mediaicons.org. I use XBMC mostly on my big screen and they wide icons make it much easier to read.

Hey, thanks for the tip. Those look really nice. I found this page with links to 800 wide game icons and some TV shows too. Can't wait to try them.

Maybe I'm just so used to large scale data transfers that 2-3MB/s feels like rocket fuel to me.  That's probably a sign of age.  It doesn't bother me at all to start a transfer, walk away, and come back a half hour later.

I almost always average about 10MB/s when using Avalaunch+Qwix.

I like to use the ones on the mediaicons site with the rounded + shadow style. I hate the look of the scanline ones.

So what are the good homebrew games?  I downloaded a few last night but haven't had the chance to try any out yet.  The Star Wars game had some sweet looking screenshots.
