Broken Wii Controller
« on: December 26, 2006, 01:06:19 am »
Hey just wondering if you guys that bought a Wii have run into this problem. I hooked up the wii with the controller that came with it and set up the time date etc. Then I hooked up the second Nintendo controller I bought at Gamestop(also an original Nintendo controller). I played it with my kid a while and everything was great! Then in the middle of a tennis match my 1st controller, the one that came with the system stopped responding! The light that lights up either the 1st or second player was lit but the controller wouldn't do anything! I pressed every button, reset the wii checked all the connections and only the second controller worked. I took the batteries out and popped them back in and the lights on it didn't come back on. So its been dead ever since. I tried everything. Should I try and return it to Gamestop saying that its the second controller I bought? Do you think the kids at Gamestop will figure it out? The only thing that I noticed is that the controller that came with the wii has some writing on the left bottom side and the second one that came from gamestop didn't. Is that the case with your controllers also? Here are some pictures to show you what I mean: The one with the red circles is the controller that came with the wii. Do you think if I return it to toys r us that they ll just give me another controller? Or do you think they will take back the whole wii and tell me to wait till they get more? The Wii works great with the second controller and I havent had any problems.

If it's the Wiimote that came with the Wii, it's covered under your warranty.... contact Nintendo.
I Haven't Lost My Mind, It's Backed Up On Disk Somewhere.

Agreed, and I can't imagine they would ask you to send in your whole Wii, so don't even worry about that.

Did you try replacing the batteries with different ones?

I actually had that happen to mine. The batteries that came with it were already dead. :(

I think if you press the 1 and 2 button at the same time the remote trys to relocate the console and the sensor bar and might not respond for a few seconds, maybe that is what happend to you?

Thanks for the response guys FYI if this happens to you Nintendo gives you 2 choices:

1. Give them you Credit card # and they will send you a new one that will take about 5 business days, when you receive the package you must send back the broken one in the same box the new one came in. They pay for shipping both ways and if for some reason they don't receive your broken one then they charge you Credit card.

2. You ship your controller in for repairs and they repair it and send it back to you repaired that could take 2 to 4 weeks.

I just took the controller back to Gamestop and got another one.

The controller that came with my Wii has no writing on it... how curious. Maybe you got some kind of unique prototype controller by accident and gave it away?  :o Not likely, but that would really suck.
