Anyone find any flaky behavior from their first-gen Wii/PS3?

My Wii will occasionally stop communicating with my controllers (just two at the moment).  I can tell that it's the bluetooth controller in the console as the only way to fix it is by a hard power reset.

Doesn't happen often -- in fact, I think it's been like 3 times, but still worth mentioning.

I haven't noticed that happening but I have had an error stating something like "System files corrupted. Consult your user manual". I then have to do a hard reset then it works fine. It has happened 3 or 4 times. Each time it happens I'm sure that it will never reboot and it's broken forever.

Why not call Nintendo customer service? Your warranty is for 90 days.

It's longer than that.  One year, I thought.  Plus another three months if you register it at nintendo.com.  Not 100% sure on those numbers, but I think I'm close.

Did you get yours online?  The first thing my Wii did when I got it online last night was download an update.

If a hard reset is fixing it I'd wait until they're in greater supply and then return it to the store for a replacement, as sending it back would leave you without your Wii for quite a few days.

Not yet. I haven't had a chance to really dive into the whole issue of it seeing my wireless router but not being able to connect. Why can't anything just work right out of the box?

Not yet. I haven't had a chance to really dive into the whole issue of it seeing my wireless router but not being able to connect. Why can't anything just work right out of the box? 

You may need to download the latest firmware for your router.  I had to do this last month in order for port-fowarding to work right on my XBOX 360.

As far as the Wii, it recognized my wireless network automatically and went right to work downloading.

I'm using a Linksys WRTG54 or something like that (DSL router).

Well I downloaded the trial version of the web browser for the Wii without a problem. But after I tried to go back into the marketplace (or whatever it's called) after that, it locked up on me while trying to connect and I had to restart it. No other issues, though.

Only thing I've had happen with my Wii is when I tried to do an update for the News Browser it connected and looked like it started downloading so I went to bed. Got up the next morning and it didn't move. I did a hard reset and it came back on no problem. Tried to do the update again and it said one was not available, I was up to date. That's it. I believe that the News channel is NOT active yet, someone correct me if I'm wrong.

My wii has been rock solid, not evne a single error. And I've been playing the hell out of it.  If I were you guys I'd be contacting customer support. 

Answering questions:

Yes if you register at nintendo.com you get an additional 90 days on your warranty, giving you 6 months of coverage. 

The wii shop channel is notoriously slow, eve on working wiis.  Changing your router channel to 1 or 11 helps a ton. This helps all wireless connection.  I can't stress this enough, the first thing you should do before taking the wii out of the box is to change the channel on your wireless router to 1 or 11.  Everything will work better, internet-wise. 

Wii news isn't out yet, it was a mistake by nintendo to have the icon on there.  It'll be out by the end of this month I believe and they'll send you an email to your wii like they did for the internet channel.

Some general "My wireless XXXX device won't work" tips:

1) Limit the number of 2.4GHz wireless devices in the near vicinity.  Mobile phones, cordless phones, microwaves, other bluetooth/802.11 devices will all interfere.

2) It's been noted that the Wiimotes/sensor strip don't like being in an overly bright room.  Try investing in some curtains.

My controler does this aswell, but all i need to do is press the A button on a controler.

Sounds like your system is just going into power-save.  When you press A, your controller re-establishes the connection.  My problem is (this has still only happened twice), when I returned to the Wii menu from a game (Zelda), the controller and console stop communicating.  I had to pull the power on the console to get it back.

I appreciate the help, but this issue doesn't have anything to do with 2.4 GHz channel access issues, nor is it a problem with the IR functionality.  Probably just a flaky bluetooth controller.

I should just get off my booty and get the Wii replaced.  I'm just so busy with work, and I don't feel like dealing with this.

I'm getting the same  "System Files Corrupt, Consult .........." anyone had any luck fixing it?? I have found where you can reset the system memory, but I would lose my game saves. I think i'll back it up to the sd card and see what happens.

I haven't had a chance to reset the system memory, but I went back and deleted all of the wii messages (i.e. .. Mr. Greenjeans scored age 76  ) ...and I haven't gotten the "System files corrupt..." message anymore ....maybe it fixed itself??

Got a friend I was visiting this weekend who got a PS3 and the problem I noticed right away is that it was having bits of slowdown just like a common PC. Isn't that one of the big bonuses of buying a console - no PC lag? I only really noticed it happening on some new Tony Hawk game. That slowdown was there sometimes and when you first start the game it loads everything at once so it feels like you are using a 2X CD-Rom cuz it takes so long.

Other than that I would say that the graphics did seem rather impressive, but the couple of games I tried didn't really seem all that great.

Our Wii sometimes flakes out and says it cant read the disc and I have to Hard Reset it. 2 or 3 times as I recall....

The Internet Channel doesnt behave right at all, It likes to refresh on its own and randomly jump to different pages....

And in Wii Sports Bowling sometimes the ball will only hook to one side no matter what you do and you have to reset.... Only happened about 4 times....

Im sure there will be tons of updates to fix things like this.
