NFL Blitz 99 Arcade blown fuse at power up
« on: December 20, 2006, 07:45:33 pm »
I recently acquired  a NFL Blitz 99 arcade that blows the 3 amp fuse on the small transformer where power comes in at as soon as you power it up. If you unplug the monitor everything works fine. I was told that it recently had a cap kit and everything worked fine afterwards. The guy that had it before said it worked perfectly and then it suddenly went out. I think it has a dead short, the fuse blows instantly and is burnt black. Any ideas on where to start?

Lower the power on the power supply?

What make and model monitor is it?

Unplug the degauss coil and see if it still blows.
If it does, then there is more than like a problem in the power supply section of the monitor. (H.O.T., voltage regulator, rectifier diodes, etc)
Not a technician . . . . just a DIY'er.

Im far from a monitor guru.... but it sounds like someone powered their monitor without the isolation transformer.  I did this last week... and after that, all it would do is blow the fuse at the transformer from there on out.

i'd say your deflection board is toast.

its a bit of a strange one,all i can think of is someone has overated the fuse on the monitor chassis and because of a dead short(either degauss circuit or primary power circuit diode)its blowing the fuse on the mains input-check the fuse rating on the monitor first, they are usually about 2 amps
also worth checking whether someone has cut into the monitor power input to provide the marquee lamp with power
