argh! Monitor issues-please help!

Hey guys
  i was recently jsut moving around some games from cabinet to cabinet and I am now having a problem with one. I took out one PCB and installed the other, CPS2 board. I noticed when first powering on the cabinet that the PSU was emitting a low almost groaning noise, most likely the fan I assumed. So I sprayed a little WD-40 into it powered it on and it was seemingly working fine. My buddy and I played a little bit and the screen started intermittantly jumping so I decided to shut it down and try again. This time however I powered it up, and nothing but scrambled lines all over the screen. I have a feeling it may have something to do with the horizontal output, would I be able to just adjust this? I tried adjusting the +5 on the PSU but to avail. At one point with my fiddling and checking wires the monitor just all of a sudden was back to normal. I turned it off and on and back to the scrambled lines again. I have tried adjusting all the pots and these make no difference. I can however hear volume. The monitor serial number is...

Scrambled lines sounds like a sync issue.

Had a Neo Geo a few months back that would go scrambly.  Turned out that the input pins on the monitor all had cracked solder joints.  Resoldered and it was 5x5.

that would make sense. So you dont think adjusting the horizontal output would have any effect? Im down to give it a go but given the danger level of adjusting a charged, running monitor I guess I would rather not if it is possible. But only one way to tell I reckon. You dont think it is related to the PSU? I just turned it back on and the PSU is making the groaning noise again, almost in consecutive spurts. It sounds as if the fan is actually trying to run but it doesnt have the juice to consistently power it. Is there anything else that could be making that awful sound in the PSU? I am guessing since I have audio that the PSU is probably actually okay and it is just the fan that is dying. I actually tried nudging the connectors on the input pins but this yielded no results either, albeit if they are that far gone though it may not produce any telling results. What would be the correct next step to proceed here, I am getting a red earth kit next week and would like to have this cabinet up and running by then. We all know the sensitivity of CPS3 and if there is any danger of a voltage spike (from the PSU as a result of the fan issue) or anything else for that matter I would be best not to put it in at all I think. The fan is likely dirty.  Remove the PS, clean it out.  Peel the sticker off the fan, you'll see a plug.  Remove it, and put a single drop of 3-in-1 oil in there (NOT WD-40).  Reassemble and test.

And no, I don't think a scrambled picture is from your PS.

And no, you wouldn't resolder your monitor chassis while it's on and running.  You must, of course, adjust it while it's on, but that shouldn't be a big deal.

Thanks again Peale. I actually meant adjusting the horizontal width coil while the monitor was powered on and if it was avoidable. Which I did last night but to no effect. So it looks like I will be discharging this monitor and resoldering some things.

My PSU is a Peter Chou, do I just unplug the unit and disconnect the 2 wire bundles via molex connectors feeding into the unit? Any other precautions to take?  Sorry for all the questions man, Im still learning alot of this stuff so your advice is extremely valuable. Thanks man.
