List of known good TV's??
« on: December 19, 2006, 01:27:32 am »
Hey All..

Is there a known list or something of good tv's that people have used with their cabinet setups?

I ask this because of my recent purchase of a TV has left me dissapointed... but only slightly...  While searching a sizeable  distance (in other words, cheap delivery or not a huge favor to ask a friend) around the bronx and upper manhattan, I came across a 24" TV that seemed almost perfect in size for what I needed, plus it had s-video...(Sylvania 6424TFS).. I get it home and everything is pretty much perfect except for this huge "VIDEO 1" that pops up on the screen after anything that looks like a "screen status change"....  I mean it actually has a feature to restart itself automatically after a power loss... I dont even have to edit it to work with the cab!...(sigh)

Would any of you guys with TV's just chalk it up and deal with it?

I had a hard enough time trying to find a regular old crt TV without the new "wide" look with space on both sides, let alone one at a good price..  I'd hate to think I have to have to go through a trek of buying and returning TV's to find one without a huge input label... especially with all the small shops that sell TV's around here that have "only same product exchange" and "no refund" policies...

I feel like I'm settling, but at the same time I also feel like It's probably the best I can do...

Any thoughts?

Ah, big cities....blech.   Look in the manual; there might some trouble shooting. It sounds like it's notifying it of something, or the signal is 'bouncing' it.  By screen status, do you mean from mame menu to games and back?....or even just going into the tab menu?

Well it seems to be randomly during screen transitions... either a change in resolution, "refresh rate", or when I change from software to opengl...

It'll happen more with apps that don't let me control things like that... but then there are some apps that do it anyway, even though I have it set to the unified setting (800*600 32bit color 60hz)....

I dunno.... should I deal with it?

and I guess such a list doesnt exist, eh?

Well, that might be it, right there - you have to set the resolution for the TV.   Froj another current thread, I think it's 640*480.

it HAS to be 640*480?   800*600 looks perfectly fine....

I'm not familiar with your TV in particular, but you can toggle that display off on a lot of TV's. If your remote has a Display or Status button, hit that while the Video 1 is showing on the screen. That might make it go away.

I'm using a 27" Toshiba, but the problem with them is that they change the model numbers every year. You might also get a bigger response in the monitor/video forum.

Yeap, the button is there, but it only removes the label until the next time it wants to pop up...

I guess it just looks like I have to deal with it and try to coordinate the video modes best I can...

Either way, the original premise is still there... Does anyone think it would be a good idea to have a thread where people post TV's (name and model..pic if possible) they know are good for our purpose?

Any way I can move or have this thread moved to the video forum?
