Sea Invasion opening after 25 years in a box
« on: December 19, 2006, 12:26:36 am »
:dizzy: i really cant still beleive what happen to me ....

few weeks ago i was surfing on ebay, looking for a new commando cpo, when i bump in something crazy...few NIB arcade cab  :o

i remember the seller, a while back he sold a tri pool NIB cocktail and few pinball...
i notice that he is selling 2 NIB robotron, one mini upright and one cocktail, also some pinballs and a cocktail table "SEA INVASION"

I have been collecting arcade for quit a while now, and i thought, HOW COOL it will be to own a brand new cab  :dizzy:

i talk to the seller, who give me a few tips on the cab: it is a cocktail table, brand new, it as never been open before, just for the purpose of photos for ebay. and s sit in a storage for 25 years...

on this i may be lucky, coz most peoples are bidding on the 2 robotrons  ;D

and !!!!

YESSSSSSS i win the bid ... :o  ....
the game was shipped via forward air, from Vancouver to MIAMI FL ....

after 2 weeks of waiting, the cocktail finaly arrived...time to pick it up at the terminal....

:-\ everything started wrong ... the terminal changed the procedure for pick up ...
and they couldnt located the table  :'( after an hour of waiting, it finally surface from the back of the warehouse...

BUT NO WAYYYYYYYYY, the box look damage !!!!!!!!! so we decide to open it on the spot to check it out....i am ready to drop dead  if anything went wrong ......

To give me a hand, my friend ALON (on  the picture) open the box

YESSSSSSSS everything is ok....they carry it upside down the all time, and the glass didnt broke... i was really lucky  :applaud:

we put the table in the jeep, and back to the game room ....

we are so excited that we just look quickly and power the table and then
:hissy: a big noise come from the cab, a big flash and then nothing   :'(

i open the table, look arround, i spot that one cable got loose a created a short circuit on the power supply...
ok time to go to work that power supply is the same as the one i have in my astro fighter "made in japan" nothing compare to the ones i use usually...
a cable as melt during the shock, i was able to fix it very quickly, put it back together ...

test number two....

yesssssssssssssssssss it work !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  :notworthy:

ok now i can enjoy it !!!! we discover a serial number on the pcb, the same one is on the cab (570)

the cab is so clean, i never imagine to see something like that in real...
i feel like been in a dream ....

the game is similar as "SCRAMBLE" but this time it's in the deep of the ocean....

here few pictures of the beast

the pcb ...

the panel is not scratch, just cover with dust ....

what a day !!!! i still cant beleive that this cab was in a box for 25 years, and nobody as ever play on it...

I've been watching this over at killercabs forum (I don't have an account, just like reading), glad you wrote it up here too. Really neat video also. Super stuff, you must feel like 1 in a million.

Another nice grab .. man that is one clean cabinet!!

Cogratulations ... which machine has to leave to make space for this one ?

Or is this one clean enough to go in the living room ? ;D

I wish I had had a chance to get out to see all of those machines back when he first opened up the warehouse (we had a "West Coast office" ... actually a chalet in Whistler ... back then) -- would have been something to see.

Cheers

Not listed on klov.com. Definitely a Scramble clone. Nice addition to your arcade!

Nice catch!   It is hard to believe how beautiful a NIB can be after 25 years.

Are you guys nuts ? Wipe off those fingerprints on the buttons and joystick IMMEDIATLY, vacuum shrinkwrap it NOW, put it in a wooden box, and put that in a concrete vault NOW !

Then, in 25 years time, you get it out again and play 1 game. Then repeat above instructions.

This must be saved for later generations !!!

Just kidding guys, what a magnificant sight to look at something like that brand new out of the box.....

Wanna trade against my beat-up, rusted, dusted, watered, scratched, bumped Tehkan Pleiads cocktail ? It's a much more fun game.....no really, trust me ! ;)

And you're lucky you live here 'cause  in China when you are one in a million -there are thirteen hundred other people just like you. But still you may actually  be one in 300 million, assuming that's all of them  cabs. Thanks for that great blog too. (Make that 1 in 6.5 billion 'cause I don't thing there are any more  like that on the whole planet.)

Yeah, that is pretty cool - to be the first ever to play a game that old.   :)

Closest I got to something that cool was to get 5 or so games from an arcade that existed back in the day that I used to go to.  It then became a gym and some games got put in the attic.  A raid got me them.  That was a neat feeling - to own some ACTUAL GAMES from an arcade where I played when I was little.  :)  That was probably the "high point" from a "neato" standpoint of my 3 or so years of collecting.

That's how I actually got started in this hobby. I bought the very same Killer Instinct machine I used to play in high school when the arcade decided they were gonna go "kid friendly".
