Found a new arcade in town (not impressed)
« on: December 17, 2006, 11:17:32 pm »
Hey guys,

I had to get out of the hospital for a little while last night and went to eat with my mother-in-law. Next door to the retaurant was an arcade/kids hangout. They had an assortment of games from the 80's and 90's, and 5 pinball machines in  the arcade section.

I played a near-mint punchout...unfortunately right punch and ko button did not work.....I couldn't finish glass joe in the first round. :laugh2:

Had a junior pacman in good condition.

Nothing else that is really worth mentioning video-wise. Just has been a while since I saw that many vids in one place that weren't shooting/racing/$2 per play.

I went over to the pins...the Earthquake pin had an adjustment error. The Rocky and Bullwinkle kept getting the ball stuck under a ramp - had to tilt the machine twice just to get the ball loose. Had a Nascar pin that only had ONE pinball in it.  :laugh2: They did have a World Poker Tour pin in new condition that was pretty good that at least made my time worthwhile.

I guess the point I am trying to get to is that why would someone open an arcade if they have no clue whatsover (or no desire whasoever) to maintaining their machines? It is no wonder that arcades are almost non-existent now.

Off the  :soapbox: now.  ;D

Most arcades these days don't own their own machines.  They're owned by an operator.  Their sticker may be on the front of the machine.  Give them a call and tell them your finding.

I always look for stickers when I find new machines...no stickers here.

I recently dropped a couple quarters into an "on location" Marvel Vs. Capcom.  Being that it only had down / left and 3 attack buttons, i had a hard time getting any further than the third round.

I just hate that crap.

I told the manager, but she had that "i'm not going to do anything about it" look to her.

DUDE!!!  Where is it?  Tell me it is in Charleston.  Sounds like a good place to buy some messed up games. :)

It's the one I told you about earlier. Across from Pullman Square in Huntington.

Damn.  Well I'll stop by next time I'm up there, which isn't very often.  An hour drive isn't worth swinging by on the off chance that the gameroom actually owns the games. :( And if owned by an operator, it's probably one of the operators near Huntington - again, not practical to keep dropping by.

If it were near Charleston, no problem...

Earthshaker is a really good game.  Maybe it'll be working next time.

You know what's funny is that I had never been to pullman square until last weekend, and if I had noticed the arcade I definitely would have stopped in!!  I actually thought to myself how nice it would be if there were one nearby.

I tried to go there on Tuesday after I did a survey in the area - about noon time. They had a sign saying they were open for lunch, but the doors were locked. Maybe they meant lunch on the weekend. :dunno

They were open for lunch, not you... you didn't bring lunch.

Went into a local pizza place I frequent that has a few games last night. They have an original Ms. Pacman in there which has been in need of TLC for some time for its monitor. I almost had a heart attack when I walked up to find that the monitor was crisp and clear looking! My faith has been partially restored in vendors.

What makes you think they did anything to it?  Seems more likely that the monitor was just having a good day. ;)
