Without the GDRom Writer Unit which attaches via the port in the back, manuals, and software, thats nothing more than an overpriced Dreamcast unit.    Still a nice collectors item I guess.

The Dreamcast plays any blanks right out of the box.  The item isn't useless at all.  Even just a Dreamcast with a hard drive is really useful.

$200 is too much, I agree, but that thing has a lot of potential uses.  I mean hell, the thing has VGA out right in it.

I'm not sure what you mean by "plays blanks right out of the box"? Also not sure how you can even utilize the drive without the development software to address it.  Maybe some low level DC coders could hack it.

BTW: it can't even read cd-r's.

Or maybe you can get the software someplace else.  Very rare items have to be pieced together from multiple sources most of the time.

"out of the box":  the standard DC plays CDRs.  No mod necessary.
