No saves on NBA JAM games w/ Mame...

I see that NBA Jam games are listed in the unsupported section of the unofficial high score.dat. I love this game and would like to be able to save my records. Is there a way to do this?

This is the only game I have been playing lately.  Lots of the midway games from around the time Jam was around auto saves the stuff.  Just dont delete the Jam nvram or config file.  It will save initials records and all that stuff.  Even tells me number one used teams at this location.  Orlando Magic since they got Shaq!
