Blasted! I can't get component to work!
« on: December 16, 2006, 01:19:06 pm »
I have a Gigabyte Radeon x1300 with a adapter box (came with card) that plus in to an svideo looking plug.  The adapter box came with the video card, and it has a switch that says HDTV and TV.  It has svideo on the box and it has the red, green, blue for component.  When you have it on the tv switch it says you plug composite yellow in on the red I think is the color (for composite).  Anyways that is what the instructions said for regular tv.  When I plug all compoent in and hit the HDTV switch it doesn't look right.

Then I decided to get the dvi to component connector off of ebay, and when I plug that in, and flick the lil switch to 480i I get crazy colors and screen flicker.

My TV is a 27" sharp SDTV.  Does this mean these boxes/dongles/and switches only work for HDTVs?  I don't mind S-Video I think it still looks kick tail and all, but many of yuo swear by component.  Well if I can't get it to work I am going to buy an S-Video Actlabs gun

I'm using the DVI/Component adapter on Radeon 9550 with a standard definition Toshiba TV and it works. Did you let it load all the way to the desktop? For some reason, my TV doesn't like to display the DOS/text resolution when the machine POSTs. It is just a scrambled and wavy image until it gets to the Windows background color screen. It displays this text fine when using S-Video.

I set my resolution within Windows to 640x480, and the adapter to 480i. Are you trying to load Windows at a  higher resolution?

To get it working right with MAME, I used the Advanced tab in MaLa and specified a custom resolution of 640x432 to eliminate overscan.

I use Mamewah.  I don't know why I can't get the resolution to work in mame.  I even tell it to run a game as -r 640x432, but to no avail.  My component thing just doesn't work.  It is clear but it is a reddish tint, but I switched all the other wires around to no avail.  No biggie though, I have ordered an Act-Labs S-Video Lightgun so that si the way I am going.  Tell me when you run 640x432 do you get underscan anywhere???

640x432 appears to be about perfect for games. If there is any underscan, it's minimal.
My Windows desktop is still running 640x480, so there is some overscan on that which hides most of the toolbar. Its vertical anyway, so I do pretty much all the work of moving files, etc on it from a remote PC.

When I use DVI to COMP 640 432i  I actually get a 1 inch border around the screen which makes the picture smaller,  Driving me nutz right now, great picture though
