vertical hold issue with mamewah
« on: December 13, 2006, 09:10:52 pm »
Hi,

I'm using a Electrohom G07 in WinXP with Mamewah.  Many games look fine, but others have Vertical hold problems, mostly the Capcom games I believe, but some others also roll.  If I adjust the vertical hold in the game it'll be fine but when I escape back to the menu it's rolling.  Do I need to limit the number of resolutions Mamewah will try on a game or should I just move the vertical hold pot to the front of the cab?  I tried using AVres but couldn't seem to get it working for me.  If that's the program to use, what resolutions do I need to keep/delete?

Thanks,
Scott

Forgot to mention that I'm using a 9200 ArcadeVGA.

Maybe I should have searched the forums more diligently.  Looks like those mame resolution tools are the thing to use.  I'll just have to play with them and figure it out.

Scott,

With both of my G07's I had to choose between 2 groups of resolutions else I would have to adjust the VHOLD when they jump back and forth from each other.

What I found was that 800x600 and any resolution that contained 288 in it and/or ran less than 60Hz all seemed to sync up,  then 640x480 and the other resolutions that dont contain 288 lines all seemed to sync up.  So I just eliminated the 800x600, 288, and non 60hz resolutions and all is well.   I still come across some games that are in those ranges,  I then immediately switch all games that use that resolution (via the MAME Resolution Tool) to one that V-Holds.

You are essentially going to lose about half your available resolutions,  but you won't have to continually screw around with the vhold.

Alright, I can't figure this out.  So I tried both resolution programs from the Ultimarc website and I can't get either of them to work properly for me.  I'm using the latest Mame version .111 with Mamewah 1.61.   When I try and use the Mamewah resolution program the option to create INI files is grayed out.  If I loaded an old version of Mame, .69, then the resolution tool worked and created the correct ini files, but many of my roms didn't work with the older version.  I tried the AVres program and it created the mame.xml file and I found some ini files with custom resolutions, but when trying them out in mame, nothing happened, it just chose auto resolution.  Could someone give me some help on using these programs?
