27 inch Sharp TV. Some scores cut off on top of screen,
« on: December 12, 2006, 06:36:04 pm »
Hey guys.  I am using a 27" TV.  Looks pretty nice on S-Video I am waiting for the DVI to component adapter.  My thing is on the very top left of the TV it seems that it is just barely above the screen kind of like overscan strife.  I can still see the scores but it is just a tad of some of the scores in games are cut off a lil bit.  No big deal everything looks pretty nice and centered it is just the top left corner area.

In my Radeon Control center when I resize the Top a little it comes down, but then the right hand upper corner I can see the black above it.  Is there anything I can do or should I just leave it be.

I don't know the service menu code, and I don't want to f up anything.  It seems pretty good everywhere else just that little bit in the upper left hand corner.  Here is a pic of MS Pacman not a good pic I really need a horizontal game.  No big deal on the mspac because the high score section was like on the very top anyways.  But on horizontal games it looks like maybe say like 15-20% of the scores are cut off on p1 side.

to add some to the deal.  There is a little overscan on the left and right sides, but everything is centered so it doesn't make any diff there.  I use 640x480 and sometimes in windows if I have a screen maximized I can barely see the scroll bar to the right of the screen, but like I said no biggie there.

Overscan is to be expected on a tv, since the old days because old picture tubes had terrible lineraity towards the edges, they scanned past the image window. Nothing important is broadcast on normal tv in the overscan.

You will need to use the service menu of the tv to reduce the overscan. It may also be able to rotate the image to get the top straight.

Dont bother till you get the component adaptor since any changes for svideo or composite will be irrelevent on component via the dvi socket since that doesnt go via a scan converter chip like the component via minidin that some nvidia cards have.

I screwed up a tv pretty bad one time I got into the service menu.  I don't know if I want to go through that again.  Anyways say I get into the overscan setting and I bring the top part down some.  Won't that make the bottom part go farther down to where I can't see it.  I also have no idea how to get into Sharps service menu.  I don't know if I really want to.  It doesn't bother me, should I just leave it alone?

I have a flat tube Toshiba and in 640x480 I always have overscan, but that's not a problem with powerstrip and the 'arcade' setting. Sets my desktop to 640x432 and the fit is perfect, no overscan at all. Not everyone can make the overscan go away without it, that's for sure.

Actually taking a look at it.  It doesn't really look that bad at all.  I can read everything on the screen.  Some minor, minor score cut off, but I can still read the scores fine on some of the games.  I am just going to leave it.  I am afraid if I use powerstrip arcade settings I may actually get some underscan which I don't want.

Just looking back at it, it doesn't look that bad at all.

Powerstrip = Free = Nothing to lose

It's the transitive property of MAME....  Come on, live a little!

Does anyone know how to get into the service menu of a Sharp TV.  Also if I did the arcade setting in powerstrip would I get a black border around any part of the screen?
