Turbo Out Run sound help
« on: December 08, 2006, 11:11:37 pm »
Hi everyone!  Long time, first time, etc.  I just purchased my first two arcade cabinets for my basement, and there's an issue with Turbo Outrun:  the sound is busted.  Actually, to be more precice, if I stick my ear very very close to the speaker I can hear the music and sound, it's just very quiet.  I tried the obvious:  switched speakers, switched L/R, but no luck.  I figured something might be up with the amplifier, so I attached an old computer speaker w/ built-in amplifier thinking that might be able to be a quick-and-dirty workaround, but that didnt seem to work either.  Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Yeah.... turn it up....geez.    ;D

Actually, I agree in a sense, find the volume pot and fiddle with it.
It may be bad also.
But you "have" sound, so I would assume that the amplifier is functioning otherwise you probably wouldn't have anything at all.

For the regular Outrun (which is upgradeable to Turbo Outrun I believe) there is a sound test mode, and it can also adjust the balance. You might check in the service menus for something like that on yours.

Not a technician . . . . just a DIY'er.

Did try the volume, thanks ;)

Anyway problem fixed, or at least, hacked to my liking sufficiently...  It was definitely the amp causing the problem, as when I unplugged the wire going from the main board to the amp and ran a wire from there to my amplified speakers I got perfect sound.  So what I did was throw my computer speakers up behind the marquee, ran the speaker power line out the back, and now no one will ever know the difference (probably).
