Anyone read Mysteries/Thrillers...Yes?...Then help me out.
« on: December 07, 2006, 01:55:53 pm »
Like many men in America right now I am struggling with a present for my wife.  She has quite a commute and loves mystery books on CD.  The thing is that I know her favorite authors are people like Dean Koontz and Nora Roberts, but I have no clue which books she has and our stuff is packed away right now so I can't look.

Who would be another author that I could introduce her to that would be along these lines?  Someone slightly obscure would be best to give me the best chance at giving her something she wouldn't have thought of herself.

Edit:  Wow!  finnaly something so off topic and girly that the board couldn't haddle it.  I thought since the was a harry potter thread a while back that someone might know.  I got her DVD's for this part of her present.  I know what she has and likes.

Maybe some Tom Clancy? Like Rainbow Six? It's action/adventure and mystery.

Check walmart.com and search for mystery books.

Agatha Christie, or maybe some anthology.

King of the Flying Monkeys from the Dark Side

I guess I'll throw the obvious one out there: Stephen King.

Koontz has some good books, but he can be hit/miss. Mr. Murder is still one of my all-time favorites though.

I'll probably catch hell for this, but here you go:
Jude Devereax is another one of those mystery/romance writers like Nora Roberts. My wife read some book called "The Mulberry Tree". She liked it, and recommends it to you.

Get her The Joy of Sex on CD.  And put someone else's name on the gift tag.  She'll think it's a riot.

I was going to start a new thread, but figured I'd do a search to make sure there wasn't one on this subject already.

BOOKS ON CD ARE THE BEST!!!

My girlfriend started me on these.  She got me started with one from the library.  I look forward to the driving to work.  And I have extra incentive to leave(as if I needed it)

Nelson DeMille - "Mayday"
-- This was her favorite when she had a long commute.
       It's a conspiracy/action/ romance /zombie book all in one

Nelson DeMille - "The Charm School"
Nelson DeMille - "The Talbot Odyssey"
--These two are great spy stories, but really dated.

John Grisham - "The Broker"

I need to find another book to start.

I did my first book on cd about 2 months ago - Michael Crichton: NEXT. I love reading but I don't have time for it anymore. It took a few chapters to get used to, but once I got into it I really liked it. I used my ipod shuffle to listen and let me tell ya, those ear buds get downright uncomfortable after a few hours. ;D

I worked as a pool man one summer when I was younger, and I spent pretty much all day listening to books on tape while cleaning the pools.  I must of gone through more then a dozen books that summer.
