Discoloration in corner of monitor?
« on: December 04, 2006, 04:02:25 pm »
I noticed when playing Donkey Kong the other day that there is a bit of discoloration in the lower right corner of my monitor.  I've got a Happ Vision Pro 19" Shelf Mount VGA/SVGA Monitor (49-1337-VP2LG).  The bottom right corner appears to be lighter than the rest of the screen - like the girders in Donkey Kong are orange in that area instead of red.  I have it mounted in a cocktail cabinet and I've read that I might need to degausse it but I really have no idea what that means or how to do it.  The rest of the picture looks great though.

Any help would be most appreciated!

Ok, here are a couple of suggestions:
- First off, degauss, all picture tubes are affected by magnetism. Sometimes the earths magnatic field, sometimes transformers, speakers or large steel objects. magnetism is measured in the units of Gauss (More likely milli gauss)
- To Degauss is to attempt to remove these unwanted magnetic fields. 2 choices, if you have access to a "Degausser" use it (likely you do not unless you ask a local tv service repair shop).
-Other wise most monitors have 1 of 2 types of degaussing circuits. Automatic Degauss, in this case a "thermsitor on the monitor allows the deausser to come on at turn off when cold" or a Degauss button.
- If there is no degauss button, unplug the monitor completely from the main power, give it at least 30 minutes then plug it in. This may have to be repeated 3~7 times if the degaussing circuit is operating/designed properly.

All this said, I am guessing what is really wrong is that the alignment of the picture tube/yoke and CP rings is slightly off...

If you want to be adventurous, download the G07 manual and check out the description of how to set-up purity - this is really what your problem is...

But before you do all this, the reason you have this problem is the earth's magnetic field- my guess is the picture tube is now facing either directly north or south (hard to tell because I need more details) anyway turn it 90 degrees at a time - make sure to unplug the game each time so the auto degauss circuit comes on- plug in afte you move the game/monitor.

All of that is a bandaid for either poor set-up or set-up for a different earths magnetic field.

I can likely help you with the right fix, just not here as it is way too long winded.
